@Outwrangle: More of a value for morale. Although since players like to shoot the other team's flags, they can serve as a decent indicator of who's in the fort... if the friendly flag is still up, the fort's probably still in friendly hands.

I can see flags as having a small amount of strategic value.

@Kaede: Yeah, that's my opinion too. I'm actually a build-only user myself, but I make sure that the build-only randomness stays in the servers that are designated for it. If I'm building on a war server, you can bet it's something practical. The largest "impractical" structures I've made on war servers have been small flags, on top of practical structures.

Well, as long as they keep to themselves on their on build servers, fine. I don't care what they do on their build servers.

The Minecraft community is, on the whole, probably less detrimental than CoD, if only because I haven't seen much in the way of Minecraft fans demanding weapons from Minecraft.

They're both detrimental to this game in their own ways. Minecraft autists come and do nothing but build autistic structures, wasting team space; CoD kiddies come and grief, and whine and bitch and moan on the forums, not to mention the clan spam.

Personally, I dislike the Minecraft fanbase a lot more than the CoD fanbase.

Who gives a crap whether or not this game has stuff that's in CoD. A lot of the reasons as to why CoD became as popular as it is, is because the game did a lot of stuff right. The fanbases of games that are WAY more similar to CoD don't get damn near as much hate as CoDs. Really, what's the difference between CoD and BF:BC2? Oh, wait, you can drive vehicles, and there's a destruction system that rarely changes gameplay. That totally excuses the fact that they both play damn near exactly the same. Yet, for some reason, no one gives a flippin' fuck if BC2's community is here. Funny. I think this game can definitely do some of the things that CoD did right, and still remain a completely unique game with a completely unique community.

You guys complain about the fanbase, but you're forgetting that AoS is most dominated by /v/irgins, who are some of the biggest assholes imaginable. I don't think CoD fans could ruin the community any more than 4chan already has.

Its not that CoD is bad... its cause most things should stay away from AoS.
AoS is a very simple and easy to understandable fps. And such things would ruin the game!
The point is... CoD or even BF things most of the time wouldn't fit into AoS cause at first this game should be a ww1 or 2 game or am I on the wrong herring?

As everbody said "We don't hate the game we only hate the fanbase" and what i really hate on they're fanbase is bulling and making fun at other players that play other games like WoW.Almost 90% of CoD players are full of kids trolling around and thinking they're "Awesome" or "Cool" or even "Beast".

They all hate cod cause they suck at gaming, they use teh fanbase as excuse yes they are horrible but all you do is mute and ignore, until something bigger and better comes cod will be the source of hate for years, maybe battifield will take the rep, anyway people here who say they like battlefield are hyprocrites cause it is JUST LIKE COD but no teamwork that is BULL**** battlefield is something EA made to compete with COD and become the next king of FPS so basically it is COD you all hate but just a little different that you decided it was good of enough not to be hated on.

If fanbase is the only thing about Call of Duty you guys hate then, I don't really know what to say. I hate it because it's just rehash after rehash, the fanbase is horrid, and they overcharge for dlc. Honestly though now that I think about it, before CoD4 came out everyone hated on Halo. Maybe i'm wrong, but that's how I remember it.

It's also good to stay away from CoD because AoS is, as far as I know, the first serious voxel FPS. There's a lot of potential for it as a unique game, more so than as a continuation of an extant game genre.
