I second Kaede Chan.

The people that have been calling this "Minecraft with guns" are only partly right, and I don't want them to be totally right. This game isn't a resource-gathering sandbox, it's a first-person shooter in a totally destructable and totally customizable environment.

I'll put it this way: In Ace of Spades, the terrain-altering features enhance the combat features, not the other way around.

Hey guys, I've been thinking of a gameplay mechanic that might enhance Ace of Spades. Now don't get me wrong, Ace of Spades is a great game, and has become even better thanks to the new v0.54 update. So, without further ado here it is:

Mining:

People are calling this game "Minecraft with guns," so I was thinking, what if you were to actually tunnel into the ground and find resources to make items out of! Let me put it to you this way:

In the beginning of the game, each player on each team starts off with the default loadout, a stone pick, a stone spade, and a Semi-Automatic Rifle. (or SMG, whichever you picked) Now, you can assign a group of people on your team to tunnel down, far into the earth to bring back resources, like bronze, steel, uranium, titanium, etc. The pick will obviously be used to mine rock and minerals, while the spade will be used to dig out dirt, while still keeping its "3 blocks dug out" mechanic.

Rock and minerals will begin around 10-20 blocks underground, so as not to interfere with anyone who is trying to use the spade to tunnel into the enemy's base.

Now, once the assigned miners have obtained all of the minerals needed, they can begin crafting better picks, spades, and better quality guns. When I say better quality I mean that they have better range, reload speed, and damage. Here is an example

Semi-Automatic Rifle:
Default Bullets: Bronze
Damage Per Shot: 40
Upgrade to Steel
DPS: 55
Upgrade to Uranium
DPS: 70

This just an example of what you can do with the mining aspect. Of course, everything has durability, which always urges you to find more resources.

You will most probably keep your items on death, because it would be PRETTY annoying making bullets for your Rifle out of Steel, getting killed, and then having to find more? Another option would be to allow you to keep your items for a certain number of lives. i.e. 5 lives, then back to the default set.

Tell me what you think guys. :)

Well it's not just a first-person shooter. It's got digging and hiding and building. I don't think it's that much of a stretch to have something like this.

Maybe "crafting" isn't the right word.
It'd be just like having an engineer. But in this case, the tools are blocks that, when placed in the build zone, can make ammo boxes or a stationary gun that the creator can place and can't be destroyed. Or maybe it can be. Maybe there's a build for a machine gun that has 100 rounds.

I don't want Ace of Spades to have resources that you have to grind for. Just maybe using the blocks as some kind of currency. So at the cost of the 50 blocks you have, you can trade them in for something in return. Maybe it's a way to introduce weapons into the game without having them a permanent part of the inventory.

if a little depth was added to it I think it would become a really neat mechanic.

ex. you need to put a certain amount of iron blocks in certain shape to make a tank and to make a flamethrower you have to put lava in a hole then draw a nozzle.

It would be pretty cool to see some competition for recources.

Screw Minecraft. I mean like placing a bunch of blocks in a shape or pattern and getting a tank. Not putting 5 blocks to get a different helmet or some crap.

Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7vXE-BeWSM
See? If done correctly, AoS could benefit from this. Maybe not chain guns and tanks, but WWI/AoS-like things. Just a handful of things too. Not 400 recipes to remember.

If anyone played Team Buddies on the PlayStation, I think AoS could benefit from a crafting system similar to that. There was a crafting zone and you placed blocks in a certain pattern and it gave you something in return. Like a tank or weapon type.

I'm not sure what AoS-style things would be crafted, but I think it would add another dynamic. Especially for those who don't build much.
