Nope... someone really did try to pass themselves off as me by editing their config.ini, if I'm reading the listing correctly. I'm guessing that it got picked up because the imposter was using the same IP to play as himself and impersonate me.

He may also have been acting like a total troll in-game... anyone that knew me in-game or in the forums could probably tell that someone with poor grammar and a severe case of childishness likely isn't me.

The current forums accounts could be converted into the game accounts. Thus anyone who has their true account on here can switch automatically without fear of imposters. That would certainly protect Lexsym from her dozens of wannabes.

And I only posed as someone else as a demonstration. I suppose I could have decided to speedhack... as long as I don't all-caps or spell like a newb, I might have even gotten away with it. I'll never know, because I refuse to take hacks into a server, because I'm not a Deuce.

I wanted to see how easy it was to pose as someone else, so I tried it myself for about half an hour. Who I posed as, and where, I'll not say, but rest assured I just played the game in a civil manner and didn't grief, troll, or hack. I wanted to see how easy it was to pose as someone else on AoS... too easy.

There is definitely some ambiguity with the rules, it says to search before you post and not to revive old thread. :P Quite the contradiction. The spirit of the no nocroing is to prevent the reviving of pointless threads. I believe ingame impostering is a legitimate concern and will continue to be until a registration system is in place.

Please refrain from "Necroing" threads older than a week. It says so in the guidelines.

You can always replace your first name with Shadow and use your first name as your forum name.
