<description><p>I have a great idea for a spleef mode. </p>
<p>1. Guns do not deal damage.</p>
<p>2. When a player dies he respawns in spectator mode.</p>
<p>3. Play all on one map with one or more floors.</p>
<p>4. Water is 10000000000000000000000 damage (insta-kill)</p>
<p>5. Last one standing can capture the intel, gain 10 points, and reset that round, and everyone spawns back as a regular player.</p>

<description><p>I have created a script which enables a player to choose from one of four class modes, each with its own special abilities!</p>

<p><strong>Check back here for updates!</strong></p>
<p>Type /mode MODENUMBER to chose your class mode.</p>
<p><strong>Soldier: Mode 0</strong><br />
1. Can switch guns at will without dying (use period like normal)<br />
2. Receives 30% less damage from enemy fire and grenades than normal (headshots are still instant-kill though)</p>
<p><strong>Assassin: Mode 1</strong><br />
<strong>Tip: Use the 2 and 5 number keys to quickly switch between the grenade and the pickaxe.</strong><br />
1. Switch to the grenade to toggle the assassin's invisibility cloak on and off.<br />
2. Swinging the spade will disable the invisibility cloak. (default)<br />
3. Swinging the pickaxe will disable the invisibility cloak. (default)<br />
4. The assassin's cloak can charge up to a maximum time of 15 seconds (default)<br />
5. The assassin's cloak recharges when the assassin's cloak is disabled.<br />
6. Assassins cannot use bullets or grenades to kill the enemy. The only way that they can kill the enemy is by using the pickaxe.<br />
7. Enemy grenades and enemy melee will deactivate the invisibility cloak or possibly kill an invisible assassin. Unfortunately bullets cannot be used to disable the assassin's invisibility cloak or kill them while invisible due to technical reasons.<br />
8. An assassin's invisibility cloak will not function if the player is too close to the enemy intel (default 64 blocks away) or if the player is carrying the enemy intel.</p>
<p><strong>Sniper: Mode 2</strong><br />
1. Fire three times on a block to teleport on top of it.<br />
2. The sniper can teleport a maximum of 130 blocks (default, approximate distance that a block can be seen in the fog)<br />
3. When you teleport, the number of blocks you have teleported is subtracted from your teleporter's energy.<br />
4. The teleporter recharges at a rate of 3 blocks per second. (default)<br />
5. You can only teleport on top of blocks that have the three blocks above them being empty space. This is to prevent graphical glitchouts.<br />
6. The shotgun cannot be used to teleport (because many accidental teleportations would occur if it could be used)<br />
7. The SMG cannot be used to teleport<br />
8. A sniper cannot teleport to a block that is 64 blocks away or less from the enemy intel (default)<br />
9. A sniper cannot teleport while carrying the enemy intel.</p>
<p><strong>Medic: Mode 3</strong><br />
1. Swing your pickaxe to heal teammates.<br />
2. Use the /build command to select a structure to make. The next block you place after you run this command, and the direction you are facing will determine the direction, location, and color of the structure.<br />
3. Each structure requires a certain number of kills to make. When you build a structure, it's cost will be subtracted from your current number of kills.<br />
4. Dying will not reset your kill count.<br />

6. /build 0 - Constructs a wall 7 blocks wide and 2 blocks high. Cost: 2 kills<br />
7. /build 1 - Constructs a bunker around you. Cost: 3 kills<br />
8. /build 2 - Constructs a sniper tower in front of you. Cost: 4 kills<br />
9. /build 3 - Constructs a 26 block long 3 block wide bridge in front of you. Cost: 5 kills</p>
<p><strong>Bugs</strong><br />
1. Changing weapons when in the soldier class causes guns to have an amount of ammo that would otherwise be impossible to have under normal conditions. This cannot be fixed with the current client because the server cannot control the client's ammo count. When the user respawns or refills the ammo at the tent the ammo will be set to the correct amount. For now, think of it as a class feature :P</p>
<p><strong>Server admins:</strong><br />
1. Download the script to the scripts folder.<br />
2. Remember to add "modes" to the scripts list in config.txt<br />
3. Please add this in the "help" section in config.txt: "/MODE      Sets your class mode. Each class has its own special abilities!"<br />
4. Make sure you have the latest pyspades server.<br />
5. You may want to change the "melee_damage" to something like 50.<br />
6. If you want the assassin to remain invisible when they start swinging the pickaxe, you can always set the CLOAK_DISABLE_PICKAXE variable to False.</p>
<p><strong>Suggestions:</strong><br />
1. Please keep in mind that I don't have total control over the client. Any suggestions should be able to work with the current client.<br />
2. Block number, ammo count, and grenade number cannot be controlled by the server. The best we can do is refill them to their default values.</p>
<p>Update 1:<br />
I've bumped the teleporter recharge rate down to 3 blocks per second. Also I've added options as to whether or not the swinging pickaxe or spade disrupts the cloak.</p>
<p>Update 2: Swinging the pickaxe will no longer disable the cloak (default setting)</p>
<p>Update 3: I have uploaded a new version where the cloak cooldown is disabled by default. The cooldown just seems to be more of an annoyance than an actual problem during gameplay.</p>
<p>Update 4: Bumped maximum cloak energy up to 20 seconds. Bumped teleporter recharge rate down to 2.5 blocks/second</p>
<p>Update 5: I've finally fixed the message sending too fast or not at all bug.</p>
<p>Update 6: It turns out that I accidentally set the update rate to 0.5, which means that all the countdowns/recharges went twice as fast (oops). Keeping this in mind, I've changed the assassin max energy to 15 seconds (actually a buff...) and the teleporter recharge rate to 3.0 blocks / second (actually a nerf...)</p>
<p>Update 7: The script now works again with capture the flag mode</p>
<p>Update 8: Fixed a bug where it was impossible for the assassin to kill while cloaked.</p>
<p>Update 9: The user will receive a warning now if the mode they select is invalid.</p>
<p>Update 10: Fixed a bug where assassins could hit soldiers by shooting them. Fixed a bug where players entered god mode while being invisible as an assassin.</p>
<p>Update 11: The sniper can no longer use the SMG to teleport. The builder has been renamed to medic and now has a healing pickaxe that heals one person at a time at a rate of 10 hp/second. The pickaxe now disables the cloak when swung be default (server admins can change this back if they want)</p>
<p>Update 12:<br />
Fixed bug when using the /build command. You can now use /b as a shortcut for the build command.

<description><p>Over the last few days I've been working with izzy to bring this game mode to life. After trying many different prototypes, I think we've found the "true" gameplay of this mode with the "Cat's Eye" map running on aloha now. At this point I think it's ready for more public comment.</p>
<p>This is how the game mode works(taken from the wiki page I wrote up):</p>

In this mode the map is "controlled" by placing or removing blocks - so building on new ground is one way to gain territory, but tunneling into enemy territory and destroying their structures can be even better, since it removes control from them at the same time.</p>
<p>Each x/y coordinate controlled goes towards a "sector" score - each grid area is a sector. Controlling more blocks than the opponent wins the sector. Each sector controlled is worth 1 point per tick(of 30 seconds).</p>
<p>Scoring only adds the balance of points: If Green and Blue control equal amounts of area, no points are added. If Green controls 1 more territory it gains 1 point per tick.</p>
<p>CTF gameplay remains active but you can add a high cap limit to discourage it.</p></blockquote>
<p>The Cat's Eye map is designed as a sort of offspring of Pinpoint and Hallway; the big central tower plays a major role in providing sniping positions, while the surrounding area is just high enough to allow trench warfare. I've been surprised to see what people are doing with it :)

<description><p>I have a bunch of ideas for what could be done next as far as new game modes. After seeing TDM in pyspades and what it can do - it was the test for making modes other than CTF - I think we're ready for the next step, which is to try to make game modes that elaborate on the AoS gameplay. Here are some concepts I've been collecting, feel free to comment or add your own. No copies of generic FPS game modes please, they have to include building and destroying blocks.</p>
<p><strong>Tower of Babel</strong><br />
In this mode each team tries to build the highest tower in a certain grid location of the map, and knock down the other team's tower. Own-team griefing in that grid area is simply impossible. The win condition is to reach a certain score - the game scores your structure, where blocks placed higher are worth more than low ones, and solid columns are worth more than overhangs.</p>
<p>Alternatively: Each team starts with a structure that they can't touch at all, and score goes downwards until a loser is declared.</p>
<p><strong>Economy</strong><br />
In this mode, every block your team built(not including the prebuilt ones on the map) earns a point at regular time intervals; destroying the other team's blocks, instead of earning points, contributes to a second "destruction" score. When the destruction score hits a certain limit it's reset and the opposing team is temporarily unable to place blocks(their economy is shut down).</p>
<p>This mode is made to reward pure builders, but it doesn't have a solution for griefing yet. (At first I thought only awarding points for new blocks would work, but then you can just sit at spawn adding and removing the same block forever.)</p>
<p><strong>Territory Control</strong><br />
In this mode, you control grid squares by (of course) building on them. As long as you have more blocks than the other team in that grid square, you own the square.

<description><p>This is a bug I've experienced with three seperate vanilla servers running 0.54, as well as several servers from 0.52 and earlier running PySpades.</p>
<p>It's teleporting.  Not watching other players teleport due to lag, but having yourself teleported to where you were several seconds ago (also likely due to lag).  Prior to 0.54 I only experienced this problem with PySpades servers, but it's now a problem on 0.54 servers running no third-party software of any kind.  I also experienced this glitch with the leaked version 0.53.

<p>Ive discovered a new form of cheating we'll call it "TehJazz" form cheating on mat^2's server.</p>
<p>We have a player "TehJazz", he plays on blue team, but hangs with green's team holds a green block to show he is with them, then grabs intel and moves it to a green stronghold.</p>
<p>He switches to green and the game continues. </p>
<p>He claims there are no rules and you can do whatever switching teams, greifing whatever. So I switch teams to greif their stronghold and get kicked?</p>
<p>Apparently there are no rules so long as it favors the greens.....

<description><p>I have had a normal server running for 3 days now and decided to change to a Pyspades server for administrative uses.</p>
<p>The install is on a dedicated windows XP 32bit machine. I used the precompiled win bits. The server has a warning when starting pyOpenSSl 0.10 or newer is required for SSL support in iocpractor.</p>
<p>The rest of the output looks fine but when I connect over my local network or from the internet I get  "Server Connection Failed: It's either full or misconfigured.</p>
<p>I am able to access the server status over the internet if that helps.</p>

<p>They're all based on massaging the "diamond-square midpoint displacement" algorithm with different parameters and post-processing. I like the first one in particular quite a bit - nice varied terrain.
