Do you people realize how easy it is to make skins for models in the game? it's as easy as building in the real game except you have no clip and there is no delay between each block. If you want to get a particular mod, why not try and make it yourself? I mean all you need is slab6 and you are good to go.

Comments and critique are appreciated. Suggestions are highly appreciated, as I'm still looking to improve the Green's side of the map. I ran out of ideas and thought playtesting would bring some good ones.
_________________________________________
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Hello, and welcome to a preview of my latest map. It's still very much a Work in Progress, but I'd like to see if there are any suggestions for this map.

I've been making "prefabs" on and off (mostly off) for the last few weeks, but today I made some headway with an actual map and I think it looks like it's coming together nicely.

The map is set in some nondescript industrial plant, with blues as police, trying to kill all the terrorists - greens - who have taken over the plant.

Anyway, on to the important part; Pictures!

#1: Blues Spawn
http://i51.tinypic.com/2elyqkm.png
This includes American-Style police cars and SWAT vans.

#2: Fully interiored buildings - and even some vehicles.
http://i52.tinypic.com/1547p1h.png
Here we have the interior of a warehouse, complete with articulated lorries being unloaded.

#3: Offices and Car Park
http://i52.tinypic.com/1yvfj5.png
Pretty self-explanitory.

#4: Offices, Lorries and Scaffolding.
http://i53.tinypic.com/w14qqe.png
Fully usable ladders are included and the scaffold offers another way to gain entry to the upper floors.

#5: Map
http://i52.tinypic.com/jjux5l.png
Very much WIP as you can see. Green spawn has yet to be started, and work on the Tank Farm (in middle) has only just started. I still need to start work on each flank as well. Foliage is also yet to be added.

So. there's my current project. I can't churn out map after map like some people because my work-rate is so damn slow, so don't expect this to be completed for at least a week or so - especially since I'm jetting off on holiday on Tuesday.

But for now, any comments? Anything you'd like to see added before things get too advanced? And even if you want to say something like "Looks cool", or "That is fucking shite", then please do so.

Hey guys, I'm looking for inspiration for my continuing pack of guns and want to know what you would like me to include. All you have to do is respond here telling me what guns you like... no limits on how many you can request, just two rules: Please be as specific as possible ("Tht 5up3rk3wl xXx5n1p3rxXx fr0m C0D!!11!1!!!" won't cut it...), and please limit the requests to real-world guns (I don't feel like screwing with copyright laws right now, sorry).

As a note, don't view this as an immediate request-granting service like most "request guns" topics. I might not choose to make the gun at all, and even if I do I'll put it in a pack to release later... rather than an immediate release.

Thanks for your input!

EDIT: There's also no rule saying you can't just talk about guns in here... I'll gain some useful input that way as well. I'll start things by saying I like Remington Model 700's, chambered in .22 or .3006.

I was messing around in Slab6 and read somewhere that by going to
Tools/Replace Palette/tracer.kv6, one could replace the default color palette with one that had less bland colors. I did that but this is what happened.

For example, the playerdead model goes from this:

http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr10/traeg9418/slab6help1.jpg

to this:

http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr10/traeg9418/slab6help2.jpg

All the other models also go through changes when I do this. Is that supposed to happen, or is there something terribly, terribly wrong?

The map has been finished. We're now on version 1.4.

Original Post;
_________________________________________________
Currently I am working on a Normandy-themed map, containing a small town in the centre with outlying farmlands and rural areas. Currently this map is very early in development; the town needs to be expanded by about 1/3, and the outlying areas are about 1/4 done, but I'd like to get a general feeling if there is a demand for a map like this, as well as any suggestions you may have.

All buildings are fully functional and all have interiors and windows to snipe out of. Some even have attics. Also, there are doors in this, which are 3 blocks of brown to be spaded out to 'open' them.

This means that you have to be tactical about how you play. Do you not 'close' the door by blocking it back up and risk the enemy investigating the building? Do you open a door and not go in, leading the enemy into a trap? Or do you think doors are for pansies and level the whole town? The decision will be yours.

Anyways, onto the more important stuff; Pictures!

Triplefox on "Help Mappers: Build & share prefab objects"

Following my first mapping attempt("desert", played on JukelProNabb's server), I started working on an update with a better color palette and more details. I quickly discovered that making voxel-perfect vegetation and buildings is time-consuming, but also a lot of fun. Let's share our work in this thread.

-----------------------------

Mini-tutorial for making prefabs in slab6

1. Get slab6:
http://www.advsys.net/ken/download.htm#slab6

You'll start seeing a grey ball. Left click+mouse move the camera, as do WASD.

2. Decide on your color palette. You can leave this for later but it's a good "artistic" way to start. Hit enter to open the palette and slice editor, and move your cursor over to the palette entries. Right click to select one. Use numpad 1-6 to adjust that entry, and then use the interpolate feature (numpad .) with the mouse cursor over another nearby entry to make a gradient.

3. Block out the total space your model will use( [ ] adjust brush size, { } adjust brush "speed," home and end add/remove voxels.) One voxel in slab6 = one voxel in the game. It's ok if you start big, because:

4. Now you'll destroy nearly all of those voxels, because if you're working on fine details like most AoS-scale structures, you want to do it one voxel at a time. slab6 isn't too great at working one-at-a-time in the 3D view, so you'll be working with the slice editor.

5. Move the mouse cursor over to the slices(if you closed the slice/palette view hit enter again). Hit numpad-star a few times to make the view bigger and click-drag them into whatever arrangement you like.

6.1. Now you'll build the model back up inside the slice editor.

a. Use the pageup/pagedown keys to navigate through slices.
b. Right click on a voxel to pick up the color. Note that "inside voxels" lose their color.
c. To place, press space. To flood-fill(within the slice), press f.
d. To erase, press delete, or press backspace to "pick" the transparent color.

6.2. Specific modelling techniques

a. If you're building a complex structure like most buildings, build it "in wireframe" first. Start in the z axis and build some "floor plans" for each floor, then switch to x or y to build up the corners of the structure. Don't completely fill anything in until you have to, because you want to keep things visible in the 3D view.

b. The inside voxels of a bulky shape will have no color, so don't be surprised when you expose them again and they look white/purple. This is both annoying and it affects flood fill operations, so it's another reason to build the skeleton first.

c. Save often, because this program does crash!

7. Once you're done, you can apply more colors either in the slice view, or by holding down space(single) or shift-space(brush) in the 3D view. When you're done you can use the blend keys ' and ; (they use the palette in different ways, but for most models it won't matter which one you use.)

AoS doesn't obey regular voxlap lighting for terrain, so just make it look as good as possible when unlit. The strategy I've been using is to splash two colors over the model in a camo pattern and then blend them.

8. The final format should be kvx, not kv6. Voxed treats kv6 as a sprite, not a piece of terrain. Once you're done you can test it in voxed by pressing u and selecting the kvx file.

------------
