SIEGE TANKS!
Siege tanks, I dont mean those BIIG CLUNKY TANKS that wouldnt even work well on the blocky terrain, i mean the Siege tanks from StarCraft, with slight modifications, they will "hover" over the ground, and they will not be able to attack when not on siege mode.
It can go to siege mode, where it is fixed and will do instantkill damage and will immediately destroy any blocks, it's reload time should also be nerfed to 9 seconds, it will do splash damage of 6 blocks. And it will have at least 400 health, give it speed of 1 block/second.
It will be created by placing a "Blueprint" block and you will insert a block on it by right clicking while holdinng a block, once 200 blocks are inserted, a siege tank will be ready for construction, just hit it 20 times with the pickaxe, you can also mount a gun by right clicking with your gun, but that gun disappears once you lose ammo. To create it, just hit it 20 times with your pickaxe, and it instantly appears, It will have 40 ammo in it by default, to create more, just insert a block in it and it will add about 1 tank ammo.

Here are tactics that might work if this was ever implemented:
One thing you can do, is to make an underground garage for a lot of tanks, then when the time comes, half of your team will go to the garage and each one will go to a tank, you will invade the enemy with your tanks, the other half of your team will be helping you. (since siege tanks are only useful in siege mode), you will leave 1 tank on the base to defend the intel. Make sure to leave the tanks on high ground.
You can do the other way around, by placing many siege tanks around your intel and technically make the intel unreahable unless they do something about the tanks.
Both sides would still be balanced, because when the blues put siege tanks up in the mountains near the river, of course they have an advantage, right? No, the greens would simply be able to place their own on the map and counter, while the others do suppression fire on the tank, on the other hand, if greens put tanks in strategical areas, they would have the advantage. Blues will just go around and take them from the back with grenades.(I think 4 grenades would be good enough to kill a tank)

Hope you like it!

GET TO THE CHOPPAH!

Easy to spot and slow moving, I'm actually worried they'll be too vulnerable. I would suggest this:

-Chopper takes something like 30 shots to kill, but the pilot is perfectly protected until then (30 shots is like 3/4 of the total ammo any individual can carry)

-Can carry four or more passengers, who are exposed but can return fire from the air

-Passengers who want out early can jump out at any time and parachute to the ground, ala BF1942.

-If two helicopters crash, both explode instantly!

This is true, but I hope helicopters won't have too long of a range. Something like an Apache with realistic range would obviously be overpowered. My main concern was that helicopters would be too easy to aim with. Planes would take more skill to aim with therefore be less accurate. Also, either way I hope the firepower of the aircraft will be Nerfed.

Maybe there can be different helicopter choices. A AH-6J Little Bird would be the "cheapest", a Black Hawk would be mid-range, and a gunship would be the most "expensive".

If helicopters in AoS worked anything like they did in C&C Renegade then I'd be happy.

They'd still go too fast for the relatively small maps.
On a big map like Hallway I'd see how a very slow small plane could actually be useful, but a helicopter will always be better than a plane for sustained close air support as they don't have to do strafing runs, they can just hover.
The VTOL ability of helicopters would just make it easier to use on the blocky terrain when there's no runway.

I was thinking prop planes not jet planes. If you didn't know already most of today's air-traffic is single-engine propeller planes. Even so, this game doesn't have to be 100% realistic, with planes going at the correct speed. Well I'd say it's a good way's below 100% as it stands currently.

To all of you asking for planes.
You really don't understand just how fast jets go do you...?
The maps are about 40 times too small to have any proper use for player controlled planes.

Helicopters are really the most probable solution.

Maybe add a page on the wiki and update there?

@bcoolface:
Nice to see you showing your face a little bit.
We would like updates, to know what you're working on - for in the end, it is the community that will play your game.

Again, I'll plug the IRC channel. #AoS @ Quakenet. All details on how to find it are listed here: http://www.aceofspadeswiki.com/index.php?title=IRC
We have some deep technical discussions about the client and server, and good times of idea sharing - it'd be worthwhile coming along sometime and idling.

1. Nice, but I hope they can be defused

2. In the future it might be nice to have a team/spawnpoint editor, but I don't think we don't need any new teams right now

3. It sounds like it would add some interesting strategy, but before that's added I think we would need some reinforced block types or maybe a revamped build system using building ghosts as seen HERE

4. Cool, but I prefer planes because it takes more skill to use them

5. Why not, but boats would only be useful on custom maps, or green could just use them for defense

6. We could definitely use an account system.

7. Binoculars, nice. Could double as a targeting tool for artillery and team commands?

8. I've been wanting an in-game chat log since the game was released.

9. Yep, a transparent background behind the chat text would rock.
