Your netbook probably doesn't support the default resolution, which is 800x600. Try switching to 640x480 by editing config.ini in C:\Program Files\Ace of Spades.

Everytime i try to join a server, a popup comes up saying : initdirecdraw failed : 0x80004001, screen blinks twice and then reverts to normal. This happened on every server I tried. I'm currently using a netbook and Win XP. Anyone know how to fix this?
