Vehicles could work... a code could be used to determine the heights of three different blocks under the middle, front, and back of the vehicle and govern slope and position from there.

Alternatively Ben could take the Minecraft approach and not have vehicles adapt to the slope at all (a la climbing spiders or waterfall-riding boats).

Strongly disagree with night time being bad. Bring it on I say.

And we already have railguns. The rifles pretty much fit the bill perfectly.
I'm not sold on vehicles, but maybe they could work, who knows.
