Edit: Ugh, beaten.

Sheeple's suggestion doesn't work when people start putting a white arrow above and below both the fake intel and the real intel, and put the real intel inside a fake intel box. I was just on this same map ten minutes ago as GREEN and it's only gotten worse; it took me several lives before I found my own team's intel. (Yes, I could have just asked, I'm just trying to suggest that it's too obfuscated.)

Yes, it's (possibly) a game design choice. Approaching it from another direction, I think it's a bad choice.

It violates the modern game design rule that anything you can easily do with an external tool (that's not considered cheating/hacking) should be built into the game (e.g. modern RPGs we have quest logs and automapping). For AoS intel, you can use map screenshots or other note-taking to keep track and then when the intel is stolen or captured, compare the screenshot or the notes against what you see currently. The only time this doesn't work is when you first join. But doing this by hand is tedious and not at all fun, yet it would be the right thing to do to maximize your team's score. Which is why we'd be better off with such tools being built into the game--which means we might as well just have properly-visible intel (no decoying).

The point IS that it's not SUPPOSED to be easy to know which one the real one is. Christ, you ever have an idea cross your mind, like "Oh, maybe we could send one guy to scout out the real intel from the fake"?

Is it that difficult to get someone out there, or YOURSELF out there, and say "Alright, I found the intel, it's the one in G5, south-east corner"?

Yes it is difficult.
In a game where you can be attacked from anywhere, and be killed with just one bullet, yes, it's hard to take a walk in the middle of the enemy base to find the real intel.
In fact, it's hard enough to capture the intel without decoy, because most of the players don't seem to car about it.

And as I've said earlier, the fake intel can be buried underground as long as you can see it from the sky, so the only way to find out it's to be next to it.
Even better, you can make fake intel that don't looks like fake intel.
Look at this:
http://tof.canardpc.com/view/3399fba9-f5aa-4373-86cf-4575e81d2e24.jpg
http://tof.canardpc.com/view/355615b8-ff29-4225-a039-8b989fc187f6.jpg

Yes, it's a fake intel
http://tof.canardpc.com/view/324a9b13-b8b3-4aa4-941e-7430d0cee572.jpg
And I've made it in 5 minutes, with more time I can make you one that is truly invisible.

But that's not all, you can even put a fake intel on the top of the real intel.

When players will figure this out, capturing the intel will become simply impossible.

Just give me 5 players, and in less than 10 minutes we can make 10 good fake intel on the map.

For the last time, people already don't care much about the objective. If on top on that they have to do some counter-espionage, they will just give up the obj and start making this game a "Minecraft with (sometimes) gunfights".

Here's how to detect the real intel in a sea of fake ones:

1) Look at the map and memorize the intels
2) Build a temporary tower or go up a hill/underground
3) Look at the map again and see which intel has the white arrow above or below it while you are there. (what has changed?)

The real intel tells you it's altitude relative to yours, so moving around a bit can help you find the real one.

Don't work if you put fake arrows on the real intel.

"No. No disrespect, man, but Zak is right. Keep this game simple."

I'm not about keeping the whole thing simple. I'd still like to see a few new guns (at maximum, an inaccurate SMG, a close-range shotgun, and a weak revolver/pistol sidearm), and I'd like to see this game go further, I just want to see HOW much is TOO much. Trying to push the envelope without tearing it.

After seeing that video, I actually do like the idea for a suppression blur, but I'd like that SMG to go along with it. Problem is, what would this blur effect do to those with under-performing computers (such as my own PC, 2.00 GHz dualcore w/ integrated graphics card)? If the blur came at little to no cost, I'd gladly welcome it.

No. No disrespect, man, but Zak is right. Keep this game simple.

There is a wide range in simplicity.
Even if all my ideas were added, it wouldn't require to be a genius to play it.

In fact you could play it exactly the same way as now, build stuff, destroy stuff, kill people...

This is a pixelart-style game with FPS feel.

The fact that the game is ugly is not a feature:
-it's because like Minecraft, the blocks are the hearth of the game
-it's a free game developed by one man
-this way, it runs on any PC

I supposed that if the creator of the game could make a game that looks like Crysis, but where you can do exactly the same thing than now (building, dinging, destroying...), and with a graphic engine that runs great even on old computer, well I think he would have done it already.

If you want realism, you're really barking up the wrong tree here.

Who's talking about realism?

The only idea who is "realistic" is the suppression fire thing, and I want it for gameplay sake.
I remember a game where we were building a bridge or something, and an enemy was shooting at us.
So we shoot back, but the guy duck for cover, and start shooting again a few second later.
With a suppression system, one player could have pinned him down so the others could have build the bridge.

It can add some teamplay, one player suppress the guy while another flank him.

Some people enjoy building bunkers or tunnels and others like to just capture the flag as much as possible, we don't need to take away elements just because we think it is boring.

Of course it's funnier for some people to build things, but if there are not playing the game, they become a nuisance for others.
It's like when you have a defence/attack game, and where half of the attacking team is camping (BF:BC2 for example).

Of course it's fun to build stuff, and it can be useful.
But once you have made 1352 bunkers and a 30km² fort, well, it's time to get your ass out and to capture the enemy flag.

I have read some suggestions here about starting maps with a 10 minutes "peace" where both team can prepare their defence, and I think it's a good idea.
But when the "peace" time is over, you remove the building tools (or you nerf it, like you can only carry 10 block max).

There was a Garry's Mod mod like that, it was fun.

Adding motion blur is not going to make this game any better, Ben could be coding something else.

I haven't say anything about motion blur.
I guess you talking about the blur in the suppression system, it's a different thing and it's not useless at all.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkiFrUSxjA0

The map is fairly tiny and if running for a few minutes takes too long then run on top of the mountain and kill enemies while you go.

It's not that tiny. When you have spent 5 minutes walking on a tunnel to get shot the second you get your head out, I can assure you 5 minute is a looooong time.

I'm gonna quote you here

the point of every game is to make something fun.

Walking alone in a tunnel is not fun. With sprinting we can make this time shorter, so people could spent more time having fun.

I only like the changes to make banning easier.

Determining the location of the intel is easy enough and the fake intels are just tactical. Even if the goal of this mode is to capture the intel, the point of every game is to make something fun. Some people enjoy building bunkers or tunnels and others like to just capture the flag as much as possible, we don't need to take away elements just because we think it is boring.

I also considered making the tiles 1/2 the size, but it isn't work the extra lines of code to implement. Having the ability to camouflage your buildings is also useful tactics and the different colours allow for point out tunnels and making fake intel. Adding motion blur is not going to make this game any better, Ben could be coding something else. The map is fairly tiny and if running for a few minutes takes too long then run on top of the mountain and kill enemies while you go.

Before tanks are added to the game we would need artillery first, the gas would kill anybody inside the tank, but not the tank it self. Though I suppose building holes to sink a tank would be epic. The game should not determine what limitations we should have, so we can adapt to the situation far faster than killing yourself to change your class.

IT'S TACTIC!
And since you're not hurting anyone and you're not doing anything unfair (cheating) it's approved and valid. Get used to it. There's not really a way to prevent fake intels. Only by disabling the whole "draw-on-map"-feature but that would be overkill and remove one nice major feature of AoS.
So, stop whining, blue.

The map's not misleading you, the enemy is, and if you can't tell which one's the decoy after 30 seconds of walking with the map on, you need to play the game more.

http://tof.canardpc.com/view/292b7c01-e94e-4a1e-894d-2f6868907c08.jpg

Seriously, it's ridiculous, there are like 10 fake intel on the map.

Of course you can tell which one is the real one by going up or down, and looking at the white arrow.
But you know what's funny?
You can also make fake arrows, so if you want to have the perfect fake intel, just create like 5 blue/green square, with a white arrow at the top and one at the bottom.
Then build the same white arrow at the top and of the bottom of the real intel.
To make it even better, dig a hole under each of the intel (the fakes and the real one), so you need to be really close to know if it's the real one or not.

IT'S STUPID!

"Ace of Spade is unique because it's an objective based multiplayer FPS where you can build stuff and the terrain is fully destructible.

Sprinting, class, vehicles or flying giant dicks are not opposed to the concept of the game."

Of course not, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm fed up of the systems or that I dislike them.

"Yes, and people are building decoy on the map. And don't say it's a part of the game, it's just silly, the map is here to help you, not to mislead you."

The map's not misleading you, the enemy is, and if you can't tell which one's the decoy after 30 seconds of walking with the map on, you need to play the game more.

"Why? You don't remember what weapon you've got? It's simple, there is only 5."

I like seeing my weapon/tool on-screen.

"Sure you can, but I think most of the people just don't care.
Try something, next time you're on the street, say "Help me" with a normal voice, and then shout it just like you were about to die, and see how many people react the first and the second time.
The point of showing the text in the middle of the screen is not only to make it more visible, but also to make it more important for players."

Terrible example/analogy, seriously. Plus, if people don't realize the importance from the get-go, they shouldn't be playing.

"Again, it's to encourage players to defend/capture the intel.
In Call of Duty, when playing on CTF mode there are big icons with text like "Capture" or "Defend" on them. When someone pick the flag, the text change to "Escort" or "Kill", and there a voice like "We've/they got the flag!"
Even the dumbest guy on Earth immediately understand what he has to do, and you instinctively want to protect that flag, because a voice told you to do so.
On top of that, the icon showing where the flag is has a little latency before updating the location, this way you don't exactly know where it is. (for Ace of Spade, you can even make the time before updating the location longer)
It can sound stupid, but it's how it's work: if there is just a tiny text on the bottom let of the screen saying "XXX got the intel" most people won't give a shit about it."

And I will say it again: That's too damned easy. A delayed signal on the map would be fine, but an indicator on the screen pointing out where the person is, is just too damned easy.

"Yes, I have seen that, it's better now."

And I would say it's not. Add twenty more bullets and thirty blocks and I'll agree.

"No we don't. Unless these features can improve the game.
And I think that sprinting on a game with huge maps is really needed."

Maps aren't huge at all, unless you're playing with just four or five people.

"Different strokes for different folks, I'm tired of everything being the same."
Ace of Spade is not unique because you can't sprint or you don't have class.
Neither because of the CTF mode.

Ace of Spade is unique because it's an objective based multiplayer FPS where you can build stuff and the terrain is fully destructible.

Sprinting, class, vehicles or flying giant dicks are not opposed to the concept of the game.

"Flags don't need to be more visible on the map, anyone can see the box on the map."
Yes, and people are building decoy on the map.
And don't say it's a part of the game, it's just silly, the map is here to help you, not to mislead your.

"Weapons should stay on the HUD, in my opinion."
Why? You don't remember what weapon you've got?
It's simple, there is only 5.

"Kills don't really matter when the game is CtF"
Totally agree with you, i'm just talking about the "You've been killed by XXX".
And now I'm thinking about it, I think the game shouldn't say when you've killed someone. Some servers on Red Orchestra were played that way, it was way better, because you can't be sure if the guy is dead or just hiding.

"I'd rather not have messages cluttering the middle of the screen, honestly, I can look down at the corner and see red text just fine."
Sure you can, but I think most of the people just don't care.
Try something, next time you're on the street, say "Help me" with a normal voice, and then shout it just like you were about to die, and see how many people react the first and the second time.
The point of showing the text in the middle of the screen is not only to make it more visible, but also to make it more important for players.

"I wouldn't mind seeing people who've taken intel on the map, but seeing them in actual gameplay through hills? No thanks."
Again, it's to encourage players to defend/capture the intel.
In Call of Duty, when playing on CTF mode there are big icons with text like "Capture" or "Defend" on them. When someone pick the flag, the text change to "Escort" or "Kill", and there a voice like "We/they have taken the flag!"
It can sound stupid, but it's how it's work: if there is just a tiny text on the bottom left of the screen saying "XXX got the intel" most people won't give a shit about it.

"Blocks and ammo have already been reduced, and it's become an annoyance to most players."
Yes, I have seen that, it's better now.

"Just as well, not a fan of sprinting or stamina systems, and as I said before, don't need to adopt the features that every other FPS does."
No we don't.
Unless these features can improve the game.
And I think that sprinting on a game with huge maps is really needed.

By the way, we really need a better forum with a proper quote system and things like that.

"If it's on many other FPS, maybe there's a reason for it?"

Different strokes for different folks, I'm tired of everything being the same. This is a breath of fresh air. Just because many start adopting a popular game's mechanics while dropping other mechanics doesn't mean every single person needs to follow suit.

Flags don't need to be more visible on the map, anyone can see the box on the map.

Weapons should stay on the HUD, in my opinion. Kills don't really matter when the game is CtF, but I figure captures should be displayed on the HUD.

I'd rather not have messages cluttering the middle of the screen, honestly, I can look down at the corner and see red text just fine.

I wouldn't mind seeing people who've taken intel on the map, but seeing them in actual gameplay through hills? No thanks.

Blocks and ammo have already been reduced, and it's become an annoyance to most players. If you've got a problem with camping and building, run your own server or start votekicking.

I'd rather the blocks stay the current size they are, and although I'm not a fan of the rainbow blocks I see around all the time, I'd rather it not just be reduced to two block colors.

Suppression fire could easily be pulled off with the SMG I suggested. We don't need blur or anything like that. Just as well, not a fan of sprinting or stamina systems, and as I said before, don't need to adopt the features that every other FPS does.

With vehicles, I'm indifferent about them. The only thing I'd like to see are weaponless boats. And I've already talked about classes; I'd rather there just be changeable primary (Rifle/SMG/Shotgun) and secondary (Grenades/Revolver/Mines) weapons.

That's about it.
