Oh, that's right! Sorry, I forgot.

Thank you for this wonderful skin, Comrade! I actually think it sucks but the government requires me to give you a predetermined amount of thanks anyway! Long live the great soviet empire!

(OK, I don't think it totally sucks... but it sounded more amusing that way).

@Stalin: OK, you can ignore advice when it's offered, refuse to acknowledge any constructive criticism, and watch your skills atrophy since you won't admit they could use some improvement. Have fun with that.

It's a shame to see you do that, though, because it really wasn't that bad for a first try (I know it's better-looking than my first AK model). It'd be a shame to see you not work to improve and make some seriously cool stuff.

...Stalin, read the whole comment.

One voxel = 3.3 cm or 1.3 in. An AK-47 is 87 cm or 34 in long, so that means the model should be 26 voxels long. As I recall, my model is actually 27 voxels long, so it's actually a little too big.

For a proof on the scaling I've used (one voxel = 3.3 cm or 1.3 in), see here: http://ace-spades.com/forums/topic.php?id=2913#post-37283

Oh, and another tip: Always test your models in-game before releasing them. My original AK-47 model looked fine in Slab6, so I released it only to later discover that it looked like crap in-game. The model I just gave you was tested in-game and looks a lot better IMHO.

Yeah, that's the cartoonish shape I was talking about, it has wrong proportions. Didn't try it in-game, thus nor knew size.

EDIT: But you can make cartoon guns if you like, TF2 is very popular too after all... And capitalist pigs can play with capitalist shits.

Sorry Jossif, but that AK-47's a little disproportionate and definitely out of scale...

Compare this version, which is carefully scaled and proportioned:
http://filesmelt.com/dl/AK-47.kv6

(sorry, feeling too lazy to upload pictures right now)

Still, it's a good effort for your first public release (as far as I know). Some adivce I would offer:

Copy the default rifle file and use copies of that as a template for all your gun mods. Take both sides off so you have a "flat" model of the gun, and then shave off everything else except the barrel and the end of the stock (this will make sure your gun is positioned correctly). Then, figure out how long your model should be (one voxel = 3.3 cm or 1.3 in) and trim off or add to the barrel until you have the proper length. Don't ever change the length at the stock end (unless you want a stockless gun to be held in the player's hands, such as a pistol)

Copy a side-on view of the gun from online (Wikipedia's a good source for this). Using paint (or any other image editor with a line or pixel-measuring tool) figure out the overall length of the gun, then calculate from there how many pixels it takes to equal one voxel on your gun. Then you can take measurements off of the picture to figre out how long various parts of the gun should be (barrel length beyond the foregrip, stock length, reciever positioning, etc) and use that to build up a "flat" model.

Once that's done, you can add voxels to each side of the gun model to flesh it out and finish up your project. You can color the gun then, or do it earlier in the process (like I do) to keep track of various elements of the gun.
