On behalf of the staff:

First thing to bear in mind, is that the new collection of staff have not even had a day on the job. Attitudes and the organisation regarding these forums has already changed, and we believe it's for the best.
We are now in almost constant communication. Administrative decisions, if not blatantly obvious, are discussed before being made. The whole process is much more of a joint decision now. Since each admin used to act on their own, personal, discretion, we hope our joining as a team will remove some of the inconsistencies there were in the past. That also means that higher-profile cases will now be jointly discussed.

Therefore, regarding 'bad admins', if you have considered an admin 'bad' in the past with there decisions, I would plea that you forget your objections and consider this change in authority as a turning of a new page. As said, we aim to be a group now rather than individual decision makers.

The people in the staff are in the staff because they are responsible. However if, beyond this point, you find decisions made to be irresponsible, then obviously the objection must be raised and can be done so with a formal thread in the Support forum.

Also bear in mind that we're always looking out for people in the community that would fit a role in the staff. It's not just 'friends' we look for, we will be looking further afield - and to be fair, me and izzy weren't particularly 'friends' with danhezee, yet between the two admins we were made moderators. Ben has setup the hierarchy and maintains it - danhezee and StackOverflow are just expanding on the communication they're having from him.

I admit the concept is nice, but it wouldn't work here.. The community is still discovering itself, it's not established enough to be handling that kind of responsibility - hence Ben and the admins. That said, we strive to be a more open team, so if you were to PM one of us in IRC with a suggestion of someone, we can bring it up in discussion.

Good concept, bad idea.

For the sake of "ontopic": There is absolutely no problem with mailing a mod/admin when you have an issue with one of them's behaviour. You could even open a new (civilized worded) thread about it. But pls do understand: The admins and the mods (which were chosen by the admins) have the domiciliary rights. They make the rules. And since you registered here you have to obey those rules. If you don't like a rule you can discuss it. But if the admins/mods do not share the same opinion you have to understand and stop pushing an argument to extremes. Because after all: They decide, not you.
Democracy doesn't play a role here. You don't want to have other people decide what happens inside your house either.
And to bring it to an end: Yes, you could even post a suggestion about who should become a new moderator (only if the rules don't say "We choose our mods on our own."). But again: They deci...I think you know...

There would definitely be admins that would say, "He/she may be a good friend, but look at what he/she did. That person shouldn't stay as an admin." Look at Adolf. He's not an admin, but he definitely had many friends on AoS, and some of them said that even though he was a good friend, he insulted Kaede and that stuff shouldn't be tolerated.

Would making it 50/50 be alright so "friends" get less say?
I think my current system is perfect with 60/40, since admins are more responsible than the forums community (for the most part).

no because the admins who currently are admins, are all friends with each other and that's how it'll stay. Whenever a new admin joins the "team", it's because they're friends with the current admins. Then as such, why would the other admins want to vote off their friend? exactly.

I personally think both the proposed system and the current system have flaws, although the proposed one has more.

The current system is like an oligarchy of popular AoS people who either have the skills of programming or have friends in high places.

The proposed system is like a democracy, where everyone votes who the admin will be.

I think we should have a compromise which I named "comprocy". The admins get 60% of the vote and the forum community gets 40%. If we want to kick or recruit an admin, we start a vote thread on the forums. Votes stay up until a certain date, which should be placed no later than a week at most.

Even if this is flawed, we still need a way to appeal decisions and actions made by admins.

I think we should have a choice.

Maybe just a way to vote for new mods? You would have to explain why you think that person should be a mod. The admins could view these and form a decision... but we could still have a problem.

It's a rather stupid idea. I didn't expect anyone to agree.

it's as simple as: "everyone, say this admin is bad, and that this admin is good, or this user deserves to be admin."

What they want, I think, is to have a say in admins' decisions and act as a "contre-poids" (counterweight?).

If Lexsym, probably the person who stands to gain from this the most, dissaproves, I think we can file it under "bad idea."

The problem here is that sometimes admins have to do unpopular things to the users of the forums to maintain the overall quality of the forums. Everyone here has either been a child before or is a child at the moment... I'm sure there have been instances where your parents had to punish you, right? To those adults out there, looking back, you'll probably admit that it was for your own good, but at the time I bet you hated it.

That's what we call an example, folks. Think it through and you'll see why an admin votekick/votepromote system could be a problem.

People DIED for you to have the right to vote for anything, so why not respect their memory and let us votekick admins?

There's a concerning amount of kiddies on the internet who want to go on in allcaps and junk about how proxorz they are and asking if you'll plox look at their mods, videos, etc (and raging at you when you have the nerve to tell them that their stuff sucks and they need to work on their skills).

I think that it is alright the way it is, but I think if one staff member(that isn't like a developer or something) is disliked enough for people to not want them, maybe they should leave. but it is alright the way it is, it's just a forum, it doesn't really need to be perfect

Democracy is overrated. Popularity of small, flat and just dumb maps, is the best prove for that.

@VXVJaKeVXV: There already is. Contact an admin or moderator if you're having trouble. Provided you state yourself clearly, politely, and not in newbish all-caps or other forms or rage-text, they will at least do you the credit of reading your message and looking into the issue.

Go into the IRC and tell the current admins.
