I played them both and some others when I did my 1000 kill run, I think it actually helped me go faster. I would play stuff like Iron Maiden but any sort of lyrics distract me.

@1337101 how do you make appdata changes permanent? I tried to change them a long time ago but they would just change back

On a midly off-topic note, has anyone else ever modified their Minecraft appdata so the game plays different music?

I now have an otherwise fully vanilla Minecraft: Metal Edition. It's so much more awesome than the default music (sorry C418 :3).

I usually either listen to A): Metal, B): The Dwarf Fortess music since I have Dwarf Fortress running in the background, or C): Nothing, so I can hear the game better and react properly to in-game sounds like tunneling noises and gunfire.
