Spengbab has it down for the most part. What he describes as "buttmad", I see more as various situations where the god complex of certain members of the community led them to perceive any kind of debate and argument against them as a form of civil disobedience and rebellion.

And for the record, not every RoT member was behind the spambot incidents.
