Another suggestion, you could have a build mode at the start of a game where nobody is able to shoot, just build for the short duration. Like a preparation phase. Then when the timer ends the fighting can start.

Because I feel it is worth repeating...

Spades ought to only be capable of digging literal surface-features.
They should only be able to destroy the -initial- highest blocks of the map (i.e. "the surface"). They should not be able to plow through any other blocks, -including- blocks placed by players.

Pickaxes ought to function as they do now in that they can destroy any type of block, one at a time.
However, they ought to take longer to destroy any blocks placed by a player than ones generated with the map. Just make an additional value for a block [as placed by a player, or not], and if so increase the number of strikes required to break it by some multiple.

These previous two notions would bring balance to tunneling without adding or removing any additional elements to the game.
It increases the reward for investing in fortifications, while still having it remain possible to breach said fortifications, and still having it remain possible to tunnel as well.
As it stands the balance between time+effectiveness of tunneling vs. fortifying is immensely in favor of tunneling, and this would help bring them to a more equal level of influence.

In addition to these concepts, I'd like to add one more.
Bullets should not destroy any player-placed blocks.
It is very novel, I know, and there is fun to be had in shooting the legs off a guard tower.
But destroying defenses from afar should be a privilege reserved for something more explosive...such as mortars!
Right now it is too easily rewarding for attackers to be able to destroy structures with bullets.

If things like classes, weapons, game modes, etc. are added then hopefully the game will be a stage where there is a match options page where they can be turned off.

Just like Mr. Wrinkles said, This game is simple. And should stay that way. The only changes should be interface/anti hacking and griefing/ balancing/ terrain generation changes. Besides that no. I generally believe it is a great game. Perhaps more weapons IF they are balanced. NO SNIPERS OR ROCKETS OR VEHICLES THOUGH.

Also @Drury, That game was the best game of AOS ive ever had. Until the hackers showed up.

As for easy changes:

- The escape key needs to bring up a menu with options and a quit confirmation instead of quitting instantly.

- The chat is difficult to read, blue in particular, coloured names and white text, or slightly tinted text would be better, as well as a chat history.

- Team colours might need a re-think, green are harder to see against grass, and blue chat I already mentioned.

- Invert the scroll wheel

- A no-build/destroy zone around the intelligence would stop tunnelling under it for cheap captures and also prevent completely filling the squares directly around it, yet allow a fortress to be built around it.

- Shovels could just be removed, pickaxes do the job.

- Don't remove head-shots.

- No vehicles please, nor rocket launchers, etc.

- Extend the respawn time

- Names above team-mates heads, but not in iron sights mode (they get in the way of aiming)

- Make the player marker thicker/more visible on the map

- Minimap on the HUD, indicators that point to the enemy intel so you always know which way you are facing.

I'd love to see this develop into a sturdy game with more than 2 factions and huge player numbers.

It might be fun if you could set down communal spawn points, flag poles or something. They would have to be within a certain distance from your base and can be destroyed by the enemy.

You'd be able to link one spawn point to a previous one, so you'd slowly spawn closer to the enemy base, but they'd only have to destroy one spawn point along your chain to make the rest useless, so you'd need to build a fort around each one and defend it.

Fortunately, blue scum had no plans to steal our intel.

Territory control - Players must capture specific points on the map, Once they've established themselves there for a set amount of time it becomes Blue/Green but can be taken back. First team to control everything wins

Deathmatch - Basically what we have now without the flag but everyones on their own

Team deathmatch - Hurr

Sure there could be a ton more

I think just a simple climb function would be great. Like, if you could just hold shift, and you can move up a diagonal incline, rather than trying to jump up it like an idiot

I think the crosshair should be removed, or at least made less precise. Aiming down the sight should not only zoom, but increase accuracy and reduce recoil. Couldn't hurt to make the sight picture better, too. Right now it's too big and bulky, I can hardly ever make out my target through it, especially at long range. I'd personally like it if the rifle were made bolt action, to encourage more conservative fighting, and for there to be a sidearm of some sort for close range combat.

A machine gun would be great. It would mean small forward bases with only a few people manning it could actually hold up against more than a few enemies

Flatter terrain, or the option for the host to edit terrain. I'd love to see some honest to God trench warfare, or at least something an option other than "Try and hop up the hill towards the enemy base and get shot to shit" or "TUNNNNNNELLLLLLL"

Green needs to be red. Or yellow. Or anything that doesn't blend in. I really like the bright colors, it's reminiscent of the older style of warfare that the gameplay evokes.

In general, I love the old-fashioned feeling, and I don't want that to change with anything like smg's or snipers or anything. For once, war feels manly again, it's about knowing that you are on exactly equal ground as everyone else, and the only way you'll survive is wits and balls

I just discovered this game and I love it. It's totally open-ended and how well you do is only limited by your ability to respond as a team to the current situation and your collective ingenuity.

*

- Obvious server things: (Moderation, Team balance, Restrict team flip-flopping etc)

- 2 types of material: colored dirt and grey stone/cement, with corresponding durability differences to slow down super-tunneling just a bit

- Light machine gun available at tent: almost useless unless crouched, stationary and zoomed, takes a while for accuracy to initially "settle" a la ghost recon.(takes up both rifle and grenade slot) This will encourage teamwork and make the battlefield situation more atmospherically intense and tactically complex while maintaining a mainly simple, non-rock-paper-scissors-type game dynamic. Bullets eroding terrain should be rebalanced accordingly.

- One health kit max, replacing grenades; available at tent. I dunno: Convenient and reasonable balance-wise, but seems like it's bordering on tf2 class shits.

*

- NO pistol/revolver/shotgun/bazooka/flamethrower/ak47/m16/CoD loadout
- NO vehicles
- NO SNIPER RIFLES

For the love of gaming, BALANCE DIGGING.

First of all, sorry for my poor english.

I agree with mr. Wrinkle. This game has his own unique gameplay and we have to focus on making it a better experience.

- NO SNIPER RIFLES. Battles between trenches or bunkers are just awesome. If you put some snipers there you will remove this. Also rifles are pretty accurated so you don't need them.
- NO VEHICLES. This game is 100% infantry and is all fun. Vehicles have no sense here.
- Make headshot more difficult.
- Possibly choose between grenades and medkits, that's a nice idea.
-Sub-machine guns. Better for close combat.
- Some controls to give orders (Like a voice saying Attack!).
- Sprint? I think we don't need it.
- Set how many points you need to win CTF.
- Team balance
- A WAR MODE. Each team member have a finite number of lives or Each team have a finite number of lives. FIGHT!

Many of you seem to want to alter the game entirely; people suggesting removing tunnelingand stuff.

The game as it is makes for a very unique experience and altering the core gameplay too much would make it too generic. I don't like theidea of adding pointless building items because it would essentially become Minecraft 2.0. I say that the devs (or dev) should focus on stabalising what is there and adding ESSENTIALS; that it to say, mostly interface tweaks and minor graphical adjustments
