Here are a few of my favorites:

This one is my all time favorite game! It has Action, suspense, and big jiggling thingies!!

This one has pets that you need to maintain, and feed. You even get to grow your own stuff to feed them!

This one is a bit more modern, It takes place on modern city streets. The graphics are pretty good, they just released a "Gold Edition!" too.

Chrono trigger + emulation?
Shin megami tensei? (seriously awesome)
Earthbound + emulator?
Dragon Quest series (IX is the best)
Monster Hunter Tri?
Xenoblade?

It's not an rpg but I highly advise that you should get cave story, It's a brilliant game.
