Whether you like it or not, the global blacklist is here. The abusive bans have been looked into and have been dealt with. Waiting for a response from Jo.

Here's a repetitive/universal tip. Don't be stupid and you won't end up on the blacklist. Simple concept. No need for swearing about how "unfair" it is, when the only person to blame is the individual(s) who felt they were too good to be on there in the first place.

Most (not all) of the people who are upset by this are generally users who don't have much credibility to their names to begin with, so it's not much of a strong argument.

Admins have already made it clear there is zero tolerance for hacking. If there is complete proof of hacking going on there is no reason for that person to be allowed to play at all. I don't care how much of a nice guy someone is, if they actively made the decision to hack for the lulz and were fully aware that there is zero tolerance they should get harshly punished. Especially considering you can go hack in a private server just to test it out, if you really must.

Otherwise I agree with everything else you said.

i have to agree, it's kind of ridiculous to ban somebody from every server in the game, i think. maybe if you hack/or whatever on one of those chain servers, you are banned from all of the servers in that chain, but all of them is kind of insane, and the rate of how people get banned also seems insane.

and i agree with the ability to disable the global ban for your own pyspades server, i think people will probably come out with their own server software if things like this aren't added

Listen up people. I would like to talk about a particular unfair ban JoJoe made: Pwn-Hammer. The reason was: "shows different name in-game. God mode, fly, harass people", which was #1 on the list on Jazz's post.

I know Pwn-Hammer IRL, and I alerted him of the ban right away when I saw it. He was really pissed and showed me that he didn't have any hacks nor ever downloaded any. The reason JoJoe banned him was a total lie. In fact, the only thing he did was headshot Joe in combat a few times and say, "Umad?" each time.

It seems to JoJoe that headshotting him several times in a row is the same offense as Flying and having Infinite Health. I ask to please remove this ban ASAP, thanks.

I do agree that the blacklist is pretty stupid, but if you want to test hacks make your own private server.

Well, most, if not all server-owners do know how to change the config (and disable the banlist)

long before even pyspades existed we server-owners shared our ipbanlist (firewall bans) to keep griefs and hackers out.

And if you can't respect the rules of an server, leave and join another one....

We want this feature and it's here to stay!

JoJoe's account has been frozen since the incident along with some of the bans temporarily lifted until they're properly explained.

As for the syncing, pyspades enables it by default and can be disabled in the config file easily and like mat said, server owners can "unsubscribe" to certain blacklist admins.

The people on the blacklist are fairly trusted members. Ben, danhezee, and myself currently have full access to all the bans incase it's ever needed. The issue will be resolved.

The sad truth is, players brought this on themselves. Don't want to risk being banned? Don't act stupid. Like I've said, there's pretty much no tolerance at this point. It sounds cruel, but so is life.

The fact that quite a few members of the community are suspicious of JoJoe's bans is important. Not to mention the fact that Kanye (and Arti) and Shadow were added to the banlist for literally no reason.

"Admin said so" isn't necessarily a good reason to immediately suspend all disbelief.

Wow, can't believe I spent 5 minutes of my day to read this..
"TheGrandmaster, another random 3rd party vendor server guy." - that made by laugh! I could address each individual on that list (except JoJoe since I don't know him too well, but others could vouch) and say why they should have access to it.
- bcoolface: creator
- danhezee: forum administrator, has access if he found someone hacking
- Enari: Minit server. He's been running it for a long time now, and trust his judgement
- izzy: Aloha servers. Look at the server list - are you blind? Again, these have been running for a very long time, and izzy is also a forum moderator.
- JoJoe: other than being a contributor to the community through his maps, he's been fairly recent - his server happens to get a fair few hackers passing through hence the access, but we might try and arrange a few other admins or something there to get a second opinion.
- Kindred: Large server owner across several games who happens to do AoS servers. The admin there has good judgement, and is willing to help find some of the hackers that pass through his servers.
- Lythrynyx: he's a new forum mod, but has been a wiki administrator for ages. He makes good decisions everywhere else - like danhezee he has access if he needed.
- mat^2: I've been watching this guy develop pyspades from day 1. He's also an IRC Operator and has shown good patience and judgement in that role also.
- SAC: I believe he's a large server owner, but am not entirely sure.
- Sham: ran Sham's Little Pony for a very long time. Of all servers, his is popular and the admin staff he has are great, leading to a nice server to be in.
- TheGrandmaster (me) - I'm a floater, I'm admin in 5 or so servers, most of which I can monitor from IRC and drop in-game when I suspect someone. The ban I made was after ~10 minutes of following the guy, and getting a second opinion from another admin in that server. Other than forum mod, I'm wiki admin and IRC op.
- Tocksman: A large server owner across several games.

Pyspades does come with it as default. But all the options are pretty clearly displayed in the config file - it's not a hidden option of any kind.

As for the rest of your rant.. the fact is that the game has been attacked by a load of hackers lately, too much for StackOverflow to handle single-handedly. We are fed up of hackers coming along to ruin the game.

We have a no-tolerance policy on the hackers currently. If we can be sure that it is most definitely a hack you are using, you shall be banned.

Just so happens JoJoe was confronted with alot of hackers, but we'll investigate nevertheless.

I'm having a hard time staying objective to this post (and considering it serious also), seeing as you first say you're not angry, call yourself a third-party, then call me a self-proclaimed god (that bans anyone, apparently - I don't use the global ban list). I'll try anyway.

Systems like PunkBuster have a global ban system also, which are automatic. No way to appeal your ban. In some cases, even your MAC address gets banned. Our system is way more primitive, and requires admin confirmation. Admittedly, I think the nature of some of the bans are "weird", but I definitely think they contribute to a better game in any case.

If people don't like JoJoe's bans, they can add "JoJoe" to the blacklist. That takes you exactly 8 characters to do. Pro option? I don't think so.

If you think pyspades doesn't work "correctly", you can always fork it under the GPL. There will always be a difference in opinion among some of us, but maintaining your own fork, representing your opinion, is possible.

Very very true, in the last two days alone, JoJoe has submitted SIXTEEN BANS, YEAH, SIXTEEN FUCKING BANS to the blacklist. I totally understand why the GBL can be helpful in some cases, but it really needs more thought. Server owners, unless they've come to an agreement with a majority of the other server owners, should only be able to submit bans that are native to their server. And the fact that he added me, my brother, and shadow to the list with fake names and reasons is just appalling...
