It not only matters how much, but also *where*. With the default iron sights one has to partially obscure their target to score anything close of a headshot, which makes keeping your target on your aim a wee bit tricky.

Sights like this (http://i.imgur.com/lYwAB.jpg) might reduce your overall field of vision, which is a more than fair trade-in when they clear space where it actually matters. Shots connect almost instantly, and changing between aims is even faster. Players who don't stay aiming with their iron sights for too long won't give a damn if they have their flanks obscured, and those who do risk becoming sitting ducks.

In my opinion, custom sights should superimpose the default one. If you want to black out nine-tenths of your screen for some reason that's fine, but at the heart of it all you'll be aiming like everybody else - sans a rather nasty handicap.

By the way, could you post yours?

I use a crosshair that takes up 80% of my screen. Which is 47% more then the default crosshair. Yet I still play better.

Wait a minute, you can make iron sights that take less space than the default ones? That's bullshit. That's super bullshit 64. People using glorified crosshairs will clearly have an advantage against people with vanilla iron sights.

Don't change the resolution while editing the original "semi.png". It has to be 800x600px.

Okay so, I've customized my iron sight, but it shows up to the left, about under the rifle icon, of the screen. Suggestions to help?

Step 2 Open the png folder
Step 3 open semi.png and edit it.
DO NOT OPEN IT WITH MS PAINT. MS PAINT DOES NOT SUPPORT TRANSPARENCY. Open it with Paint.NET or GIMP.
