UPDATE: I was able to get the registry info added, but I had to uninstall the program first. Once I reinstalled, it seems to work.

I too have been having issues with the installer (Beta .26) not adding the registry keys. I tried running the code here, but all I got was an error ("Error accessing the registry"). I am an admin and the only account on this computer.

Separately, despite setting the compatibility mode to WinXP SP3, the client always crashes (I am running Win7 64-bit).

hm, and, how do you run it as administator?

Since it's not executable (it's an .msi not an .exe) this should do it I think:

Start
Search for cmd
Right click, choose run as administrator
When command prompt is open it should say 'Administrator:' in the title.
cd to where you downloaded the msi
Do 'msiexec /i aos022install.msi'

Since it's been run from an admin commmand prompt I'm hoping it'll inherit that when msiexec installs the package.

Another thing you could try - check the registry key was added correctly. It's under HKCR\aos. If you save this text to a something.reg file and run it it'll add the association (if it's missing):

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\aos]
"URL Protocol"=""
@="URL:Ace of Spades Protocol"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\aos\DefaultIcon]
@="client.exe,1"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\aos\shell]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\aos\shell\open]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\aos\shell\open\command]
@="\"C:\\Games\\Ace of Spades\\client.exe\" \"%1\""

Obviously you should edit the directory as appropriate (be aware you need to double up on backslashes in the path).

I am having the same problem. It appears, despite numerous reinstallations, that aos:// URLs do not become associated with client.exe, instead the browser attempts to open, leading to an error page or just never loading. (I'm admin on my PC)

The installer should have associated aos:// URLs with the client.exe program.

If that's not working try rerunning the installer - ensure you run it as Administrator if you're on Vista/7.

They're currently going down like flies, but you should still be able to get on.

From what I understand all it takes is clicking on of the links on that page? but when I do, nothing happens (both in chrome and IE)

So, what am I missing here? help!
