When I was running my setup (0.36), I found that a 32 player server runs lag-free on as little as 2.2 megs upstream and averaged about 2. I'd say set aside 3 for a spike in map downloads if say 10 people join at once, but that's extremely rare and map downloads don't usually take long (a minute max for me). I was running a 32 player server on a standard Comcast residential line and people couldn't tell me apart from the 'pro' hosts.

when my 32 slot server is full it averages ~10 kB/s per player, or ~320 kB/s total, with spikes up to ~407 kB. these statistics are from beta v0.36, so i wouldn't be surprised if beta v0.42 requires more bandwidth than that considering it has even more server-side cheat detection and what not.

basically any less than 3 Mbit out is probably going to result in some kind of network lag for a full 32 slot server.

here's a way to calculate how many slots your connection can handle without lag:

if your upload speed is in Kbps, divide it by 8 then divide that by 10.
if your upload speed is in Mbps, multiply it by 1000 then divide that by 8 then divide that by 10.

round the answer down to get your max slots.

so if your connection has a 1 Mbps upload speed, then:

1 * 1000 = 1000
1000 / 8 = 125
125 / 10 = 12.5 = ~12 max slots

I have to actually find the adapter for my server first. I'll let you know if you're still looking for a decent host once I get it up. My main computer lacks ram (Windows 7 says FU to 4gigs) which is what's stopping me from using that.

Naka, a virtual machine (in my opinion), runs flawlessly with my admin tool. Also seeing your upload speed, actually, 6mbps is great for this game now. I was hosting a 19 slot server with my 1 MBPS up speed, and well, for the most part, it was okay I guess. So a conenction that 6 times better then mine, will host no problem.

Then network usage must have been decreased, as without a doubt my server consumed 150kBps, while according to that you upload at 132kBps. I haven't hosted since 0.26. At the very least, users would be slow to connect if your 32p server would operate at 150kBps and yours network is capped to 132kBps.
Another theory might be that the 150kBps is used send the packets out at a high rate, your server may be running slightly less smoothly.

Is your server external? Bittorrenting/p2p/uploading in general while hosting 32players would risk lag. It's a shame ISPs are giving us bad upload speeds while boasting download speed.

Edit: Rokurai, your upload is the same as biribiri's, and your mention of your download speed makes you look knowledgeable?

I was going to offer access to a virtualmachine running on my server, but then I noticed my upload speed
http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/3240/uploaduj.png
Forget about it.

Rokurai, that will barely host a 32 player server. At least in the earlier versions, my server consumed 150kBps and significantly more when someone is joining (downloading the map). Network usage may have been drastically reduced, I don't know.

What's this "admin tool" you speak of? You almost make it sound like a RAT. I'll feel bad the moment Ben releases proper admin capabilities for his server.

I know what I am asking, and I know your concerns. The only reason I need teamviewer, is so that I can close the admin tool, and upload a more recent revision of it, and then open it again. As well as checking the output of the admin tool for debugging purposes. I have been doing this on my computer, and it runs flawlessly in my virtual machine, however my upload speed is rather poor. (Only 1.05 MBPS). If I incorporate some kind of remote log, then I would not need teamviewer. Also, I could easily give anyone a copy of the admin tool, it's just that it won't run unless it's properly configured the way I specified (Anti-Leak protection).

There are other manners in-which I would like to discuss in private to anyone still willing to host.

Send me a PM,Send me an e-mail, send me an IM on msn: mylesv220@hotmail.ca (not .com). This is also assuming that you have read this thread:

Note: I usally get around 17 MBPS, today is just a bad day.

-I can allocate 1GB of RAM to the application.
-12+ hours uptime.
-Administrational powers.

But you would only be allocated TeamViewer access when I'm availible; if I'm away and can't reach my computer, you won't have access until I return. I'm on quite a bit though, so it won't be an issue.
