Simply replacing the spade. Personally I think that an E-Tool would be a more logical choice when it comes to digging trenches. I suggest that the E-Tool mine only 2 blocks at a time (The block it's pointing at and the one below) with a faster rate than the spade. It could also double as a 2-hit kill melee weapon
