    First of all, i'm really impressed with how much potential this game has!!!
    I know everyone has suggestions but here are mine.

    A key you can hold down to run up hills without jumping, perhaps a limited sprint ability with stamina bar. So similar to holding the freerunning button in Assassins Creed, but only capable of going up single blocks.

    When a player is killed they bloody the block underneath them a and a few around. This will be awesome to see the changing battlefield and also indicate the death traps with red bloody ground.

    Ability to dive and go prone. This will just feel rad if you can sprint and then dive for cover and slide a little.

    Blocks take a very small increment of damage from bullets? So a bunker under heavy fire will slowly fall apart.

    Killing a player or stealing intel nets you points that you can spend on things like airstrikes and whatnot. Ala Call of Duty.

    Bodies litter the battlefield? Limbs blown off or some kind of bullet hit decal on players so you know where you are hitting them.

    Simple smoke decal rising from grenades and future explosives.

    Mounted machine guns and all that jazz that everyone suggests.

    They already do.

    That'd ruin the game's style.

    A lot of the other stuff would be very laggy and unnecessary.

    Yeah I just discovered that the blocks do, my bad.
    I dunno about ruin it. I'm just thinking it needs more of an incentive to actually try steal the intel or whatever.

    The way to give incentive is to impliment an score cap, e.g. 5 point means team x wins. Killing the game by making more like Cowadoody is not the way to go.

    Spades ought to only be capable of digging literal surface-features.
    They should only be able to destroy the -initial- two-highest blocks of the map (i.e. "the surface").
    They should not be able to plow through any other blocks, including any blocks placed by players.
    Pickaxes ought to function as they do now in that they can destroy any type of block one at a time.
    However, they ought to take longer to destroy any blocks placed by a player than ones generated with the map. Just make an additional value for a block [as placed by a player, or not], and if so increase the number of strikes required to break it by some multiple.
    These previous two notions would bring balance to tunneling, without adding or removing any additional elements to the game.
    It increases the reward for investing in fortifications while still having it remain possible to breach said fortifications, while still including the ability to tunnel as well.
    As it stands the balance of time+effectiveness between tunneling and fortifying is immensely in favor of tunneling, and this would help bring them to a more equal level of influence.
    In addition to these concepts, I'd like to add one more.
    Bullets should not destroy any player-placed blocks.
    It is very novel, I know, and there is certainly fun to be had in shooting the legs off a guard tower.
    But destroying defenses from afar should be a privilege reserved for something more explosive, such as mortars.
    Right now it is too easily rewarding for attackers to be able to destroy structures with bullets.

    Well then I respectfully disagree with the idea of airstrikes. Although, it might be cool if there were like random meteor showers :)

    Anyway I like the minimalist style. Having such a limited character - You can't run super fast, and have basic weapons - means you have to be creative about the building aspect, and the action is tight but furious. One problem about the building though is that people are often uncoordinated, and sometimes you get players off in a corner just building stuff. But even alone your constructions can really improve your team's operation. A big part of this is transportation, since you waste a lot of time if you try to climb over every hill.

    It would be cool if everything was able to do damage. Pickaxe, blocks, and spade form 3 melee weapons of different speeds. Of course spade would do the most damage. This isn't super necessary since I've only run out of ammo once (from shooting structures) but would be fun.

    Also, it would be cool if you could get some kind of TNT blast. Maybe it would require that you go to the tent and drop all of your stuff, and slow you down, to balance out the huge blasting power :)

    All of these ideas, with exception to blocks taking damage from bullets which they already do, are some of the worst ideas you could come up with. What you are trying to do is take a more unique FPS and turn it into Generic Shooter #5043. The only one that is reasonably worth discussing is the sprinting up 1-level blocks, but even that is stupid. Scaling 1-level blocks is easy enough as is, it doesn't need to be easier/faster.

    You also forgot to suggest regenerating health, screen blood splatter when hit, weapon addons obtained through a level system, and I don't know what else. It's been a long time since I've played Call of Duty.
