The map has been finished. We're now on version 1.4. DOWNLOAD THE LATEST VERSION HERE Original Post; All buildings are fully functional and all have interiors and windows to snipe out of. Some even have attics. Also, there are doors in this, which are 3 blocks of brown to be spaded out to 'open' them. This means that you have to be tactical about how you play. Do you not 'close' the door by blocking it back up and risk the enemy investigating the building? Do you open a door and not go in, leading the enemy into a trap? Or do you think doors are for pansies and level the whole town? The decision will be yours. Anyways, onto the more important stuff; Pictures! Windows! Wheat Fields! Churches! Streets! Please, feel free to give me your suggestions, comments, constructive critique, or even just support. |

this map is prety awesome AND i think that bombed fileds and houses are going to look perfect in this map.think about it |

I'm kind of in the middle of making this at the moment, and I'm the type of person to finish one thing before starting another. Maybe once I've finished this, I'll look into a Warsaw '39 map.
Well if you think it looks awesome now, I hope you'll find the finished one even better! I'm planning to provide you with a 'clean' town and it's up to you lot to bomb it out. Or, more than likely, flatten everything and draw dicks in the fields. |

Sweet, we need more maps like this. Also, I hope the church won't be destroyed fast. I want to snipe from it. |
#14924 SIMOX Modifier Posted 13 years ago |
great concept. If you added a beach and a pillbox or two, things could get very interesting indeed. |
#14926 bezdomniy Member Posted 13 years ago |
To be honest, neither can I! I was inspired to make this map by the Red Orchestra mod Darkest Hour, and I hope I can bring some of the tactical play that goes on in that game to AoS.
Well that's the beauty of maps that aren't pre-destroyed, there is no guarantee what will get destroyed. You'll need to bring your A-game to keep that tower, as it makes you pretty visible and there are many, many countersniping positions.
This is not Omaha. This meant to be a representation of the many Norman towns and villages where most of the Normandy campaign took place. The church itself is modelled on the church found in Ste-Mère-Église. Anywho, some more pictures; Archways! Gardens! Church Tower Views! Maps! (Note, the map is nowhere near complete) |

I hope it lives up to people's expectations. I may be starting to test the gameplay by the end of the week.
I don't mind who hosts it. I plan on releasing the map anyway.
I actually used the bitmap converter by bildramer to do the terrain, found here; For everything else, I built it in Slab6 and imported it into Voxed using the 'U' key. Another handy tool I've been using which helps out a lot is VOXED Companion by Grapist;

Managed to basically finish the town, only small tweaks will be made, depending on what gameplay is like around the urban areas. Started on beautifying the rural parts. The roads have all been done and connected and they flow nicely in the mirrors at the edge of the map; biggest change from yesterday's map is the hedgerows and the new wheatfield. I plan on converting most of the rural area to hedgerow-bounded fields, and adding denser foliage. Here are some new pictures; Hedgerows! Manor Houses! Updated Map! |

Normandie v1.0 is available to download. Come play the map that the critics have been calling "Utterly, utterly terrible", "A steaming pile of shite" and "the sorriest excuse for a map I have ever seen". DOWNLOAD: NB: There is one field that is empty, this is because Voxed crashes every time I try to fill it with trees. I may have hit a voxel limit or something, although I doubt it, considering the number of voxels contained in the mountains in a generated landscape. If anyone knows the root of this problem, assistance would be nice! |

WinRAR is free (The free trial doesn't expire), and I don't actually have WinZIP installed. I can see if WinRAR can do ZIP files, but I'm not entirely sure. |

I just took a run around it on Alexthecreeper's server, wow is all I can say. You did a great job, can't wait for future updates :) |

Scale seems a bit small. |
#16946 Hubble Member Posted 13 years ago |
Glad people seem to be enjoying it. @Hubble, I agree with you, so I've went back and enlarged all the buildings so instead of a 3-voxel high ceiling for each floor, it is now a 4-voxel high ceiling. The trees will have to wait until I find out why Voxed hates them and crashes every time I try to import one. Normandie v1.1 is now here: |

Hey, I remember you talking about making this map on the broville server. But anyway looks great! Going to look for that "normandie" server right now! |
#17115 marioman112 Member Posted 13 years ago |
That was a while ago! Surprised anyone remembers haha. Back then I was waiting on something to help paint the terrain, then I found bildramer's bitmap converters: http://ace-spades.com/forums/topic.php?id=1023#post-10966 which can not only generate the terrain from a heightmap, but paint the terrain with a .bmp picture. The introduction of this tool is what kicked this map off. I have a server up called Normandie v1.1, not sure what the connection is like because I haven't hosted a proper server before so I don't know if my connection can handle, but we'll see. |
