As a server host, I expect server programs to be functional. Here are some issues with the current server program that should be first priority in fixing, before adding more gameplay features. 1. There is no way to save and then resume a map as a server. The only way to do so is to save it from clientside by pressing F1, then uploading to the server. The server should constantly be keeping a save of its map, in case it crashes for whatever reason. 2. You cannot host more than one server from a computer. I might be missing something, but there appears to be no way to host more than one server from a dedicated server without getting an error. I have 8 IP addresses so if I could, I would. 3. If your server loses internet connection for more than a few seconds, then your AoS server will no longer show up on the server list. The only way to fix this is to manually restart the server, thereby also losing your saved map. The server program should attempt to reconnect to the master server. Every other server program does this. These are just a few things that I think must be changed in order to make server hosting viable. |

I find these are great suggestions. Another great idea would be to add a Linux version of, at the least, the server; one with noGUI mode, so it can be run on a VPS, so that users like OP can host it elsewhere. If you REALLY want to host a second server, try getting VMWare Player, and install Windows on it. |

What? That's off-topic COMPLETELY, Rokurai. |

2) You can do multiple IPs but I am not telling anyone. 3) Get a better server hosting. |

Why post if you're not going to help Jackster? |

2) use ForceBindIP to run multiple servers on the same machine: |

Oh yea, theres a bug that if you lagg out, you cant join teams when you reconnect, someone notify the dev about that. |

Ok thanks Izzy for the information, but I still believe it should be built into the server just so it's easier for other people. Although it is not possible to install AoS on server operating systems, you can get around it just by uploading your own local installation on your home computer onto the server, then running that server.exe. My server hosting is extremely good with guaranteed 99.9% uptime, but no host can ensure that its connection won't go down for a few seconds every few hours. And any normal server program compensates for this by simply reconnecting with the master server as soon as the connection comes back. |

Is there a way to make a server private? |
#18842 Hubble Member Posted 13 years ago |
Hubble, no but hardly anyone will see it if you force it to disconnect from the master server. you can still connect to it using the aos:// address. |

pyspades does feature 2 and 3 (and adding feature 1 would be trivial) :) |
