My brother wants an anti-virus on his computer. I don't use anti-virus anymore, so I don't know which I should get for him. I used to use McAFee. Now I only run a virus scan pretty much once a year, which Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. TL;DR: Recommend a good virus scanner with a firewall, and live file scanning. |

ESET + MalwareBytes. MSE is also a good option. Also, don't forget Common Sense 2011 Business Edition |

I use Kaspersky, but I don't know if it helps. Gives quick scans of suspicious individual objects though. |

Yeah, I was going to install Malwarebytes, and MSE for him. I'm not sure how much common sense they have seeing as how they got a virus called XP Cleaning Tools or something. MSE is fairly good (atleast from what I've read online), and is free. |

I'd go for the simple hosts file: http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm MalwareBytes for the scanning. |

Before I got a new PC with a year's worth of Kaspersky thrown into the deal, I used AVG. If you want a free antivirus, use AVG. It's one of the most powerful free antivirus programs around, with an option to pay for more features. If you're willing to pay, I'd recommend Kaspersky. I've had no problems with it so far and it's really easy to use. Apparently, it's used by several banks as well. |
