How do I use it, for one. and how do I edit the config.txt? There's a ton of stuff.

If you built from source use "run_server.bat". If it works you will be able to connect in localhost mode:

    aos://16777343

(this is linked at the bottom of the AoS "play" page too, if you forget)

To connect to the master server and run online games follow the same procedure as with the vanilla server.

Once it's running you will be able to do in-game admin using "/login replaceme". (change the password before you take it online) You can also connect over ssh, using the parameters in config.txt.

We don't have docs for all the features yet.

The pre-built binary is about two weeks behind now, and everyone currently running pyspades is building from source, so I'm not sure that build actually works due to Ben's updates. You may have to build from source right now:

(Expect to spend hours if you do this.)

    You open config.txt in Notepad.

By path it means a property set in the "environment variables" configuration of Windows. You can get to this configuration from the Control Panel but the exact method depends on your version of Windows.

I didn't do this because Windows 7 was locking me out of changing the setting for some reason. Instead I downloaded MS Visual C++ 2008 Express:

    http://www.microsoft.com/express/Downloads/#2008-Visual-CPP

(it's buried in a tab partway down the screen, at the right)

This lets you skip all the stuff with mingw; you also won't have to change the Cython configuration. There's some stuff at this point that I do think I had to change but I've forgotten.

I see. I have Windows XP. I saw Mat^2 say somewhere that I only have to download the win32 build, edit, then run.

I'm sorry for bothering you, but is there any other way I can contact you so it is faster? Like a place (Preferably not IRC)

Alright, I followed that one guide (http://uploadir.com/u/v777gp) to the letter, and I got all the way to step 5, involving installing Cython. But when I tried to make a bat file with the info

    "python setup.py install build --compiler=mingw32

    pause"

in it, and ran it, it told me "'python' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

And yes, I DID add those three earlier addresses to my 'path'. I went to My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables and added all the three aforementioned paths to the System Variables list.

So what am I doing wrong? Can anyone help?

EDIT: Figured it out. Didn't realize I had to amend the PATH variable for each of the three addresses(I kept making new variables for them).

Gosh, that fucking guide. 10se1ucgo, could you edit it so that it says at the top, in BIG BRIGHT RED LETTERS that you should _always_ prefer the provided binaries? And add some links to the downloads.

Nobody should need to compile this shit except developers, ever.

You know, if I get to the end of this process and actually SUCCEED, I'm going to write a better guide. Because there's just way too much that guide assumes you already know, as a programmer. But, myself (and likely many other people) not being able to program to save my life, well... It's not stuff I assume - it's stuff I need help with. Thank god for Google, is all I've gotta say.

Charem: That's why we have the prebuilt binaries. They work perfectly. Use them if you can't be bothered with installing from source (10se1ucgo's guide).

Prebuilt binaries? Yeah, I did try that. I downloaded the latest Pyspades Feature Server from your site's Downloads tab and got a zip with a 'dist' folder in it. I tried to set up things in that folder and ran the run.exe, but to no avail - it told me I needed Python and would not do anything. And I did follow your Quick-start guide quite carefully...it just wouldn't work the way you said it would.

Regardless, I did trial and error my way to victory with the source method, and I posted up a guide with is essentially a more detailed version of 10se1's guide. Realize I don't mean offense to either of you (I consider 10se1 a friend, after all); the process was simply too complex for my less-intelligent self. I really do appreciate what you guys have done in making Pyspades, but it's simply not an easy install...at least for my computer.

All I needed to do was double click on run.exe.

Yeah, that's all that I've been told I had to do (clicking run.exe after setting up the config) but the exe would simply error every time I tried. The error in particular made little to no sense...you can see it here, as proof: http://neuropod.net/imagehost/uploads/12908b9648ade16735552de6cc0ed4f4.PNG
