  • Heightmap methods?
  •

    Hey everyone,

    I have some questions:
How do you make the heightmap for a map?
I want to know as many ways as possible, to pick the easiest out, because i'm new at mapping for AoS, i've mapped for other games such as CS1.6 and Urban terror before. and really want to learn it for this game now too.

    I use gimp,
    The ways i already know:
    - Get the origional picture, make a new layer, use opacity, draw the black and white over the right places, blur it.
    - greyscale the origional image.

    Send your methods here please.

Make heightmap first, then colour it in using fills, gradients, whatever.

You don't really make amazing maps using the bitmap converter. You make simple maps. To make an amazing map you really need to go into voxed and put in the detail yourself. Voxed Companion helps a lot too, search for it on the forums.

Besides setting the base for the landscape, you can't really make great maps from heightmaps. Give Triplefox's mapping guide a read to learn more about other tools.
