  • Problems connecting to Beta .35
  • 12

    Hey,

On one of my computers, I receive a "Server Timeout: Version Mismatch or Map Transfer Fail" when attempting to connect to any Beta .35 server. All previous versions have connected consistently. I have Vista for my operating system. I've given all programs full permission to the AoS folder, disabled all anti-virus and firewall programs, and tried Firefox and Chrome (usually use IE), all to no avail. Additionally, I can connect successfully on my Laptop, which has a Windows 7 Operating System (everything else should be more or less consistent).

    Please advise.

I'm having the same problem, though I've never played so I don't know if it's my computer, this version, or my internet...

Do you have cheat engine installed?

It can't be cheat engine because I had it installed and I had the same problem but when i uninstalled it it still gave me the same error..

P.S What does cheat engine have to do with the game? Doesn't it only work for flash games and stuff?

In part, it IS CE... I had the same problem, but I'm positive yours will fix, as mine did, if you go to Start>run>regedit>HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, then find and delete the folder ".CT"

I did have Cheat Engine installed (for other purposes), and not on my laptop. Let me purge it and see if I can connect.

EDIT: Ahh, a leftover registry. That would explain it.

You won't be able to connect without removing .CT.

Hahaha, honestly that's a stupid way to prevent hacking. There are many other memory editors and you could just delete the registry keys. The creator should just make everything server-sided already, then there will be almost no need for anti-cheat.

@Tommy, Unless you're sure you correctly port forwarded the correct port, I can't really help you and would suggest you start a new thread if you really want your own server.

I agree it wasn't a very well thought-out attempt... you can still "hack" perfectly well with other similar programs such as Tsearch.

That's what I thought Ben did. It does take a while to reprogram variables server-side though.

    Deleting the key worked. Thanks!

Make sure you're in the "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" folder in the registry editor. You could try reinstalling AOS beta .35 and then looking for it. Under data it'll say "Cheat Engine."

I'm having this issue too, and I've certainly never had Cheat Engine installed.

Unless Ben gave us some more hidden anti-cheat registry entries for other engines like WPE Pro and the like, I could only imagine the problem would be what it says - either you have a corrupt/wrong version or your internet isn't fast enough to transfer certain maps. If you're certain you have the correct version and can't connect to servers near you that host the same version (preferably under 80 or so ping) then I would wait until the next version update.

I like to pretend I found the solution to the problem as well. When in-fact someone else told me so I just act like it was me all along without giving credit.

I never claimed any credit and don't pretend to. As far as I'm concerned, it worked, and that should be the end of the matter, unless you insist on bringing unimportant things such as credit into it.

I tend to disagree, when it comes to matters such as this one with simple solutions. Of course, I never meant to steal anything from him, and I'm grateful for being able to play again myself, but nonetheless it isn't as if he just cured cancer.

Not being able to play a game that you want to play is as serious as curing cancer.

I can't help but acknowledge that that statement would be more offensive than not to cancer victims, comparing countless lives lost to cancer to a game that isn't even that addicting.

As for myself, credit is of no value to me, and I apologize if in your eyes I committed some sort of injustice.

Funny thing is, no matter what he does, cheating will be there. Or at least until he makes things server sided.

Even after moving most of the important things to server-side, every now and then it will no doubt fall victim to some more advanced hackers, but right now it's ridiculously easy to manipulate.

Unless I'm mistaken, it has something to do with the initial connection to a server. I've only gotten it a few times myself, and it usually resolves itself.
