ok hear me out, i know you guys think perm blocks are a bad idea, but not if their implemented correctly. im thinking of the ultimate anti-grief measure, to keep people from destroying vital map structures (i.e. the bridge in bridge wars). tell me what you think. |

Good idea, but you weren't the first with this idea. Horrible presentation of this idea. |

I want to take this opportunity to find out why everyone thinks being able to place unbreakable blocks (except by yourself, admins, and the enemy team) is a bad idea. I don't want some internet tough guy bullshit, I just want to have a civil debate to find out for myself. |

Because griefers would abuse it. That completely destroys the point of having them, and also completely destroys your idea. |

TL;DR Version instead Let us first imagine i am a Deuce, Sample246. I, deucing along one day, see your sniper nest. Then i will deuce into the night like a ghost and go shoot the other team for a few minutes till you stop trying to get a vote kick or other countermeasures. Over time, i will simply have placed enough blocks on the map to make a pain for any one who is half decent at shooting the enemy and there by preventing them from removing the Deuce blocks i placed in front of you people. This small, almost un-kick-worthy act multiplied by time spent on the server with the addition of other deuces and grief givers could very well make it more of a pain than getting TeamKilled for altering a structure so you can shoot the enemy. |

What if, you were only allowed to play indestructable blocks on the map editor and not in-game |

I do think that was the OP's intent. which is usually pretty acceptable on a server option tic-box. Sample's intent is less desired as a whole. |

Alright, all these are obvious answers that I expected. You guys act like the game is not going to change much before it's finished. Have any of you ever played GMod? For those of you who haven't you are able to use props like doors and tires and bathtubs etc. to make contraptions, houses, walls, etc. Mos GMod servers use prop protection, which means nobody else could mess with your props. There are plenty of game modes where griefers can use a lot of big props that you cannot move to fuck with your stuff. The solution is so simple. The admin teleports to the accused griefer, see's all these blocks plugging windows and other shit (in the future, you could be able to see a player's name by looking at a block they placed) and ban the griefer. After the griefer leaves, the admin could use a command to delete all blocks placed by this person (or it could happen automatically if the player is banned for griefing). This process would require 20 seconds at most. How could this not work? It works fine in GMod. The worst you experience is a little inconvenience before the griefer is banned and the blocks are cleared. Perhaps if indestructible were implemented NOW with as little admin control as we have, it may turn out bad, but then that means the flaw is in the lack of supporting features, not the idea of indestructible blocks itself. |

You act like the smart people haven't already realized this, also tl;dr. Make it shorter next time, this isn't about us writing how depressing our lives are, thats the other thread. |

This falls under the "if balanced correctly" addon i see so many people trying to use. When admins zip around to every one's complaints i will be quite terrified at how unhappy the admins will be in this particular game. Gmod i am familiar with, and used to mod for a few servers. i know that this could have its powers. I personally have thought of a few good reasons for it. But i think the biggest example of the problem with this is my need to modify walls that some one Deuced into my path. Many people don't understand how cover should operate. The three factors i think feeding the hate is the purity of the game. "If i see a block, i should be able to remove it" along with "I should be able to un-deuce a structure" and "the current administration situation is very un-supportive of a compromise between all or nothing" I am a fan of the latter. |

Fair enough, but I still feel that once user accounts are implemented, admin powers are increased, blocks you place will display your name when looked at, and there is a mod or two on the server you're on, that indestructible blocks would work out. Seeing how opposed to the idea everyone is, I doubt it'll ever be implemented. Hopefully whatever Ben can think of for anti-griefing measures will be effective. Also, thanks Exile, for being mature. Noire, if you didn't read my post, why would you reply to it? |
