  • Problem with game using wrong models
  •

After an hour or two of trying to fix it myself, I'm just going to ask you guys.
I recently tried my hand at making models with slab6. I basically made every body part into a wireframe, as an experiment. It was cool, I went into the game, everyone looked like handicrafts, but I realized it was a bit hard to see the enemy when you could see through them. So I took some backup .kv6 files I'd stored before editing and put them back in the AoS program files folder, so the original models should be shown in game, but I still see my wireframe creations. I opened the backups in slab6, confirmed that they were unedited, original game models, put them into the game install folder, opened them in slab6 again, and realized that it opened as the wireframe figures. For whatever reason, the act of me replacing the edited files with the unedited files had the game still use the edited ones.
I tried another experiment in trying to fix it. I made a copy of the backup, changed its name, put it in the install folder, and it opened in slab6 as the unedited file as it should have. However, changing its name back to normal (in this case playertorsoc) it opened in slab6 as the wireframe. I think there may be a tie somewhere to the specific name of the file.

So basically, the problem is that I edited some .kv6 files, replaced them with the unedited .kv6 files, but the edited ones are still showing up ingame.

    Any ideas?

You may have copied the wrong ones. But you said you checked it, so I'm not sure.

    Did you try a reinstall?

    I did try and reinstall.
Also, if it helps, the edited .kv6 files have these lock icons on them, if that makes a difference
Edit: They only appear with these lock icons when opening them in slab6. Viewing them in the install directory shows none of those locks.

Ah, sounds like an administration problem. There's a topic on it somewhere on the forums, but I forget where. I think you have to toggle admin rights on your computer to get the lock off.

I have searched online about the locks, but in my case the locks aren't on them all the time, but when I go into slab6, and open, they appear with the locks. Fixing up the permissions does nothing.
I also just found that if I edit the edited files in slab6, they will save back into the install folder retaining the changes, unlike if I were to copy an altered file over. Strange.

One possible solution would be to manually edit them all back, but let's think rationally.

That's the topic I was talking about. Maybe that'll help?

Could it be you have it installed somewhere weird?

That thread helps a bit, from the screenshot I see that that guy had the same situation with when the locks appeared. I'll try to move the install folder from C:\Program Files(x86) to C:\ as said in that thread.

But I'm the only user on the computer btw, I am THE admin.

Edit: Aha! It worked. Although I can't imagine that being the only user and admin would bring about any permission problems. Thanks.
