  • VOXED Terrain
  •

    I wanted to start making the terrain for my hopefully upcoming map, Vimy Ridge, in Voxed, but I can't make the terrain right. Maybe I should use a height map? I searched for height maps on google and all I got were some crappy, most of the terrain water, or It wasn't smooth at all.

    Can any one help with this or suggest ways to make good hills in VOXED?

    Get one of those new user made VOXED editors that Ben approves.

    do a search for "bump maps", they're usually greyscale and there's alot of variety

    I have a similar question about VOXED terrain.

    How can I generate a vanilla map for editing? I wanted to make a map with a few small traces of civilization on an otherwise vanilla landscape, but my search for mostly unaltered vanilla map on a server have all be in vain. I know there used to be a link on the "links" page to the program AoS uses to generate vanilla maps, but I have no idea where it is now, or how to use the program.

    When on any map, you can press F1 to save in game. So you could start a server quickly and save the map, It will appear in your AoS folder.

    Edit;
    I tried using the stupid voxed companion and all it does is change the cursor and when I use WASD or the arrow keys it fucks up my screen. Not using that anymore.

    Edit 2;
    I've used height maps too, but they're all either mostly water or mountainous. I need some thing to make two good hills, enough land for trenches and a river in the middle for some small bridges.

    @Gregery: I already know how to save an in-game map. The problem is that there is currently no such thing as an ungriefed vanilla in-game map. Thanks for trying to help, though.

    Host own server through AOS server client.
    Log onto that server from Localhost link at bottom of Play page.
    Savemap in game.
    Load game in voxed or on your own server to place blocks as if you were in minecraft <lolwut>

    So, does any one know how I can get a good height map? I just need a big ridge(blue spawn), a small river down the middle. and lower land (Green Spawn)

    @ 1337: I had the exact same question. Turns out you can run a local server and connect to it without any fancy server skillz

    This is what nothings said

    Except instead of clicking that link, go to the regular server-list page and click "connect to local host" once it's running.

    Gregery, heightmaps are output from Terrian editors such as Earth Sculptor.

    It might be a pain to find a free one with all the features you want but start with Earth Sculptor and work your way up and up if you can. I personally just went ahead and bought earth sculptor for the ease of use.

    Jesus christ just make a heightmap yourself in Photoshop/GIMP, it's not that hard.

    Yeah if you have photoshop you can just paint the elevation map then smooth it out/ randomize it with some filters.

    Gaussian blur is the key.
