We "can" delete tags as long as you are the one who post them, and mods do delete tags, you remember when I was spamming the dinosaurs tag, well those got deleted from the threads it wasn't relevent too.

@ noire lol shame, those dinosaur tags were random and funny.

The only place it was deleted from where it was still relevent too was the zombie thread.
