I swim as a hobby. |

@Minata: During my Freshman year in College (That'd be around 16 - 18 years old), I had a swimming class. There were a handful in my class that didn't know/ couldn't swim especially in deep water. So you're not alone. :P @Kaede: Remind me not to mess with you. O.o' |

i just had my drowning experience... my dad decided to dunk me, and when he pulled me under, i had no air in my lungs, he held me down for like 15 secs, then pulled me up JUST long enough for me to grab enough air for 5 seconds, then he held me under for another 15 secs, then he let me up finally, but i still had to swim to out of the deep end so i could actually catch my breath Y.Y |

Oh you've got nothing to worry about from me. It's not like I'll kill you or anything, I'll just drop razor blades on your face. |

Surprised that some people haven't learnt! In the UK its a compulsory subject at school that you have to have done by age 11 - all pupils must be able to swim at least 25 metres (about 80 feet) unaided. Most kids obviously can manage much better than this by the time they are 11. E.g. I remember lessons in diving (i.e. high board diving), life-saving techniques, swimming fully clothed (apart from shoes), picking bricks off of the bottom of the pool 4 metres down, intrer-school swimming races and tournaments etc etc. Great fun. Kinda interesting to hear these "almost drowned" stories here. Personally I really enjoy swimming and think its one of those "life skills" that is pretty important to know incase you *really need* it one day. Maybe all those "almost drowned" posts wouldn't have happened had it been compulsory at your schools? How many people I wonder haven't posted about their "almost drowned" experience here because they actually did drown as a 8 year old? Scary stuff. |

I hate water and being at least partially naked. I don't even wear t-shirts with short sleeves or shorts. |

@Kaede: Can you at least aim said razors at my chin? I need to shave. :/ |

If I had a pool I would swim all day every day. I would find an infinite supply of water to fill said pool and never stop swimming. |

I've learned to swim and i enjoy doing it every once in a while, not really one of my favorite everyday activites. |

Joey: It might hit your carotid artery and you might spew blood everywhere, I may be tempted to catch it all in my mouth and drink it. |

I swim quite well. I like both deep and shallow water, but I dislike pool water because it hurts my eyes, even if it is not chlorinated. My favorite place to swim is a lake or pond that has been taken care of properly (AKA not extremely polluted), or in a calm river or brook/stream. I live out in the New England country, so all of those things are within walking or driving distance of my house. I dislike when my ears hurt when I go too deep in water, because it feels like my ears are going to pop from the pressure, or something similar. I like to wear goggles when I swim, except they look a tad strange on people. I have yet to find goggles that fit me comfortably. I don't even own any goggles, though. Aw well. I like sharks. I love sharks, actually. They're not scary at all. I know a lot about sharks, too. I'm somewhat of an expert. I could go on but this thread is regarding whether I can swim or not. Yes. |

@MegaDeuce: Infinite water supplies are easy. Make a 3 block long, 1 block wide, and 1 block deep hole, pour water in either end, and pick it up out of the middle. (For the internet-impaired: sarcasm). |

@Kaede: Well, at least that's one good way to die. I think I'll shave my facial hair by myself then. :/ |
