  • Spawning Idea
  •

After thinking about how annoying spawncamping is (not to be confused with spawnkilling people as they pass through, which is acceptable to me. It's when the twerp sits there for half an hour killing you repeatedly that's a pain), I came up with a nice preventative idea:

When you respawn, you're both invisible and unable to interact with the game environment in any way except to move around in it. This lasts for a very short time ( t < 5 seconds) before you become visible and are able to build, fight, shoot, etc.

Camping in general isn't a huge problem (it was certainly a major part of WWI), and spawnkilling people as you're passing through is understandable, but I can't think of any real combat where people magically appeared in battles... this mechanic will provide more of an illusion of marching in as a real soldier would. By extension, if nobody magically appeared in battles, people couldn't wait around for them to appear so they could shoot them before they got their bearings.

So, good idea? Bad idea? Middling? What do you think?

Pretty cool I guess. Or just be invincible the first 5 seconds. It's a tiny bit more realistic.

Could be implemented in pyspades I guess ┐('~`;)┌
    Not the invisibility thing, though.

Me, I'm gentlemany enough to avoid shooting freshly spawned dudes, unless they appear with their gun pointing at me.

To be honest I've never been spawnkilled more than once in a row-- chances are you'll pop up somewhere else, and then you can hunt the offending faggot down instead.

I think I agree with Kaede-chan, it is also a thing most other games do, and it seems to work enough

Of course in some maps (hallway) 90% of the action is spawn camping and counter-spawn camping

It's pretty annoying, Fluttershy. Then again, I spawncamp as much as possible because I suck at this game. I'm not against getting rid of it, however.

the problem with the invincibility is that you could be running for the intell, then get shot in the face by a guy u saw but couldn't kill, so invisibility without being able to interact is probably better

No, invincibility shouldn't affect whether you can kill people or interact with anything or not.

You should simply be invincible 5 seconds after spawning.

The problem Alex is pointing out there is that it means you're invincible but capable of killing for five seconds, potentially near the intel. That could make defense overpowered against raids.

Basically, I want a system that prevents spawnCAMPING without preventing spawnkilling or camping seperately.

Ah, I suppose. But the chances of spawning near the intel are pretty low.
