  • New weapon: Pistols

    Because too many people are complaining about SMG accuracy, I created this as a little stopgap measure.

    - Everybody gets a pistol in addition to their selected weapon.
    - Damage is identical to the SMG, perhaps a bit higher.
    - Rate of fire is identical to the rifle.
    - Accuracy is about midway between the SMG and the rifle.
    - Recoil is very minor and easy to control.
    - 8 round magazine, 32 rounds in reserve.

    SMG users get a fighting chance at mid-range, rifle users get a decent backup weapon for if they get forced into close range. It's also useful if you run out of ammo for whatever reason. I've even got a little mockup of what the pistol's model would look like: http://i.imgur.com/PJdC8.png

    The flaw in your plan is that the SMG is actually quite powerful at mid-range. If anything, it's overpowered and should return to the less accurate implementation from the 0.53 leak. With the current version, I can humiliate rifle users pretty regularly at 50% to 75% of fog.

    I don't think we need another single-shot weapon other than a shot gun, I want weapons that have diffrent feelings to them, not some hybrid mumbojumbo. If you run out of ammo, you use Grenades, if you run out of Grenades you go back to base. Though having a knife as a supporting item choice would be nice.

    I don't think even knives are neccesary. Make the pick do damage and everything's fine (plus it's funnier that way as opposed to a knife).

    When I run out of ammo I just run back to the base. If I had a pistol I'd continue using that until it was out of ammo as well before running back to base (unless I was somewhere where only sniping worked). I'm generally completely unarmed when I'm returning to base... I just use a bit of stealthiness, and nine times out of ten I never even get shot at.

    I see where your going at, what I WEALLY want is a molotov/flame thrower for bridge battle maps that can spread to certain distances, just imagine burning a ramboing enemy, SCORCHING INFERNO!

    As it is, the SMG is totally broken. The recoil makes it impossible to keep it on target for more than three shots unless you're crouched, stationary AND at close range. On semi-auto it's accurate, yes, and I'm sure you can pull off plenty of long-range kills if you've got a good position and a couple incompetent enemies, but then you're doing barely half of the damage the rifle hits for if that.

    Thank you boss for understanding. :L The whole point of the SMG is to do less damage than the rifle, it's supposed to do a higher rate of fire.

    If by "close range" you mean five blocks away, then yes.

    Then again, right now you could also just get a rifle, which can not only kill just as easily at close range (just shoot them in the head) but can also engage the enemy at ten times the SMG's effective range.

    @asdfzxc: I can control the recoil just fine. I've gotten used to having to pull my hand back slowly on the mouse when firing. I recommend you try it out too.

    The pistol should have like only about 12-6 bullets because it should be used only as a last resort.

    a pistol would be pretty nice, I think. it would be alright if it is slightly powerful, I think 3-4 headshots would be a good idea, otherwise it would be useless. maybe it can just have a ton of recoil.

    Pistol could a decent addition, here's how I think it could work.
    It first needs to have reduced damage on blocks, that could force reliance on the main weapon the person is using for base destruction.
    Headshots should still work just fine, or at least do enough damage to actually count for something, to encourage people to aim.
    A few extra primary weapons could add some variaty, such as a flamethrower, or a mortar, could make the pistol less useless as a backup weapon, because now when you aren't cooking people or strategically laying waste to a specific building, you need to defend yourself by firing back, and you don't always have cover fire.
    Perhaps using the special weapons could slow you down, which makes having a lighter weapon all the more important.

    HIGHER RATE OF FIRE THAN RIFLE, LOWER THAN SMG
    HIGHER ACCURACY THAN SMG, LOWER THAN RIFLE
    LOWEST DAMAGE OF WEAPON TRIANGLE
    LOWEST RECOIL OF WEAPON TRIANGLE
    MOST LIKELY TO BECOME PISTOL: M1911

    Now THAT makes sense.
