  • suggestion - Rocket Launcher?

    now, i know this idea sounds ridiculous at first. but hear me out.

    this game revolves around building and destroying, and currently, we can only effectively do that with melee weapons. so currently the defensive option has huge advantages (and especially green :P)

    so we need a weapon that can effectively destroy emplacements from afar, yet not so much as to make defenses moot. so i have placed quite of bit of though on what would be a good balance. here is what i have come up with:

    The rocket launcher -

    You spawn with 0, the tent gives 1 after you stay over it for 5 seconds.
    you need to "Aim" to fire, and when you do, there is a slight delay, where a sound is played, and smoke puffs out the back

    after about a second, the rocket starts flying out at a decent velocity,it wobbles back and forward, making unpredictable but somewhat accurate. at this point it could be shot, and explode in mid air. if the rocket manages to reach its target:

    Any blocks within reach of 1.75 blocks distance is destroyed.
    This means if the rocket hits the CENTER of a block,
    It would leave a 5x5x2 hole (with 1 piece in each corner left standing in the first layer, 3 in each corner in the second)

    this would effectively remove cover from the enemy if your solo, and if working as a team, you could do some real devastating damage. you could try to dig a 2 or 3 block hole before you shot a rocket for maximum damage, but since the rocket launcher is inaccurate, there is no promise of a hit

    As for player damage, it should be light. if the player was within block kill range he should die, but anything else, the damage should be minor i don't see this as an anti infantry weapon.

    Disclaimer: I realize they did not have rocket launchers in WW1, you cant shoot rockets out of the air and they are incredibly deadly, but in video games gameplay should always trump reality, and i believe this weapon would make for some very interesting strategies, both in how we build defenses and attack them

    Maybe if it replaced your grenades. It should definitely leave a smoke trail that sticks around for a long while, as to say "Here I am, the guy that shot this." so that it has a disadvantage to being used. Probably slower movement as well.

    i bring this up because we NEED a ranged block destroying attack thats effective.

    Too many times i am building/defending my tower close to intel, doing great.

    And what happens? my tower gets greifed!
    i know your thinking "That happens to all of us"

    Yes, but have you noticed how often, the offending player SWITCHED teams to destroy your tower? and then switches back after? it happens more often then you think, keep tabs on who is on what team, and when your tower gets greifed, chances are its actually a player from the other team in disguise.

    we need some type of ranged land attack, because right now, there is no effective way to bring down defensive positions as soon as they have even minimal support.

    Way to fix this would be to enforce team locks, so that you cant join the other team if your team has more players.

    I agree with Bromosapian.

    You could also have a timer so when you change team you have to play with them for X amount of time before you can change back.

    I was actually thinking about this a few days ago.

    Currently, an RPG would not fit withing the structure of the game, but that can be improved, as mentioned above.

    Firstly, as mentioned before, team locking needs to be implemented.
    As the OP said, most griefers are opposing team switched to do damage.
    A long range defense breaker can reduce that.

    Secondly, I think the amount of blocks it destroys should be smaller, like 3x3x2, and should only kill if a direct hit.
    Withing 1sqm of the blast, moderate damage with knock back, and 2sqm away from blast should be light damage with minor knock back.

    Thirdly, mentioned above too, it should replace all grenades and should only be allowed 1 RPG at a time.

    With all the above in place, you can make for a great way to try and hinder defenses from a distance while preventing team-jumping.

    That or we stick to shooting out blocks.

    A rocket launcher is fine if there was a gametype that revolves around destroying the enemys buildings.

    Go play arma if you are going to complain about realism, for the record i never said i wanted rocket launchers, all i said is that would be fine if there was an actual point to using them (ala a gametype).

    I'm just going to say this before it devolves into a shitstorm, let the dev decide what to add and what not too. If he adds something you don't like you should just deal with it or leave. He knows what he's doing and just because the game right now is fun doesn't mean it could be better, if he adds something that makes it less fun he will remove that and try to replace it with something better.

    actually i think is under-balanced this is basically a grenade but slower with a longer range, and it actually does less damage to players and doesn't release shrapnel. so i have no idea how you think its "overpowered"

    Absolutely mortars/artillery. No RPGs, aiming them accurately would be too easy compared to their destructive power.
