in an earlier request i asked if if you could add admins to the game i decided to make another post to explain that a little more I just want to have admins to help out because on a lot of servers i have seen they are completely unmoderated and get greifed or trolls start being mean to people and nobody can hardly do anything but votekick and sometimes the server will get so full of greifers and trolls it takes up so much of percent of the server that people can't even use votekick. admins should be able to ban, kick, tempban, mute, warn and disable someone's ability to build and destroy blocks. This is one of the things i would really like added to the game. |

I think when ingame admins come, I will change back to the vanila server :) |

First we need registration. Registration though, will get rid of about 70-90% of the griefing almost immediately. Because when you have an account, and it's banned from a server, that's it! You can't just change your IP address to circumvent the ban! You'd have to create a whole new account just to start griefing again! A new account would require a valid e-mail address, and there can be only one account per e-mail address, so you'd have to make a new e-mail account too! This would end a LOT of griefing. |

@Kaede: Yeah, we need registration. I don't know how I feel about universal admins, though (except for Ben and the forum admins). I feel more like hosts should have control over who is controlling their server. Possible Scheme: Overhost: Ben. Pretty much the Lord God Almighty within AoS. Able to permanently ban players from the master server, disconnect malicious servers from the master server, whatever. Cannot be votekicked or kicked in any way. Overadmin: Stack and Dan, and probably Izzy and TGM. Able to deal out either a permanent ban or a really nasty tempban (measured in days, not hours). Can also temporarily disconnect servers from the master server. Again, cannot be votekicked or kicked in any way (except by Ben, although I hope he will never have to). Overmoderator: Any well-trusted member of the community. Able to kick and temporarily ban (for a few hours) other players, as long as the other players aren't Ben, the overadmins, other overmoderators, server hosts, server admins, or server moderators. Can initiate votekicks against other overmoderators or server moderators, which normal players can then participate in. Cannot be kicked except by Ben, overadmins, server hosts, and server admins. Can be votekicked if the votekick is started by another overmoderator or server moderator. Serverhost: The host of a server. Almost as powerful as Ben within their own server. Can kick and tempban anyone except for Ben and the overadmins, and can kick and permanently ban everyone except for Ben, the overadmins, and the overmoderators. Cannot be votekicked or kicked in any way, except by Ben and the overadmins. Serveradmin: Almost as powerful as the host. Their only difference is that the host can kick and tempban or permanently ban them as well. Servermoderator: Similar to the overmoderator, but confined to a server. Can kick and tempban anyone that doesn't have some form of host, admin, or moderator status. Can't permanently ban anyone. Can be kicked by over- or serverhosts, over- or serveradmins, and can be votekicked if the votekick is started by an over- or servermoderator. Player: No power whatsoever, except the ability to initiate a votekick against any other normal player. Notes: So, what do those of you who didn't tl;dr the whole thing think? |

I think each server is its own little country with its own little rules. The suggestion of server owners not being able to kick "Overadmins" and "Overmoderators" is laughable. |
#46793 hompy Member Posted 13 years ago |
@hompy: Maybe, although server owners CAN kick overmoderators, just not overadmins. The overadmins are there so that Ben himself doesn't have to interfere for a misdehaving host to get what's coming. The admins would have to restrain their use of this power a lot as well... obviously, kicking someone simply because they're hosting a build-only server isn't acceptable. I was thinking more along the lines of someone hosting a server (or lots of servers!) simply to lure people in and put a bad spot on their record (this ties into an earlier idea for a "three strike" system where three tempbans in short enough time would convert into a single permanent ban, which I still think is a good idea). Overall though, you're right, servers run by their own rules. I suppose hosts should be given the option to deny overmoderators power within their own server, causing the overmoderators to be as powerless as a normal player within that server (possibly with an appropriate tag change, such as [OM][Null]. The idea behind overadmin powers was a "just in case" measure in case something goes really, REALLY screwy when Ben isn't online (such as the serverlist incident). |

Yes, server owners should be able to kick overadmins and overmods. Also, votekicks should be able to be initiated against overmods: otherwise, it's just a "I CAINT BEH VOTEKICK'D LOSERZ" title, and annoying to deal with. |
#46799 dree12 Member Posted 13 years ago |
@dree12: First off, both you and hompy missed something: server hosts and admins CAN kick overmoderators if they need to. As to the issue of votekicks against overmoderators, I'm hoping that moderator access will restricted enough that nobody that immature will earn the title. It's the sort of title that would be hard to get, a total of less than a dozen in the community would probably be good. |

@keede-chan yes that was part of what i am asking but there should still be admins because even though its hard to continue to greif after a ban its very easy to start same with trolls and spammers |
#46844 MegaDwarf I'm not that mean Posted 13 years ago |
i agree with MegaDwarf and kaede admins and registration would fix most of the problems i have and undoubtedly the rest of u fellas have come across aswell. |

This is the best thread ever. It has so many good points that it needs to go on the sticky list. NOW. P.S. Moderator, KICK THE GRIEFER. |
#65950 YourMom *BANNED*Gregarious Posted 13 years ago |
Pinky's got a point, often admins are bored neonazis that permaban anybody they don't like, for example the ones that call them neonazis. The admin idea is still good but how about starting small and letting the server admins give Mod status (banhammer included) to anyone they find trustworthy? |
#66420 Da/v/e Member Posted 13 years ago |
@pinky 2 solutions, dwarf style: ranks! you gain trust as you gain power. which would require a sign up to work well |
