We have the rifle, and the SMG. The rifle fires somewhat slowly, is long range, and strong. The SMG fires quickly, is short range, and weak. Why don't we have an assault rifle that is long range, weak, but fires fast, and a shotgun that fires somewhat slowly, is short range, but strong? The assault rifle should look like an M16, and the shotgun will look like an old timey double barrelled shotgun. :) |

A shotgun would replace the need for the SMG entirely, and it's what we should have gotten instead. I'm still deeply disappointed that we didn't get a shotgun. |

Armies ALWAYS gotta have rapid fire guns. :P I think it would be cool to have a rapid fire and semi rapid fire close range and long range weapon, don't you? I feel that there are tiny moments where I need to blow some dude's face off, but then he runs behind a big pile of cover, or into a building. What a fag. -_- To even it though, the shotgun would have low ammo, probably 25. |

The need for a rapid fire weapon could and should be filled by mounted machine gun units. |

i don't think adding a shotgun would be a bad idea, as it is. but i think that mounted machine guns are a cool idea. it would just be a little complicated with the whole custom map thing. but i guess they could just be a thing that you grab near the spawn, then move it towards a position, mount it, and maybe have it so you can move it back up, or not. |
#47138 Priok Spectonaut Posted 13 years ago |
It'd be like trebuchets on AoE 2. To move them, you would have to pack it up and carry it somewhere (within your own team's side) and reassemble it. There'd be a certain amount of them depending on how many people are in the server. 5 people on both side: Both teams get ONE. 10 people? 2. 15+? 3. |

yeah, basically what i am saying, i actually think that a machine gun has an alright chance of making it into the game, just from its popularity. but it depends how it'd actually work, because there might just be the possibility that having one wouldn't be very good. maybe the creators would not want one, but i have seen a few discussions where people have agreed on it being a cool idea |

For base defense and suppressive fire. It'd be able to be destroyed by the opposing team if they used enough firepower on it. In which case, another one would spawn near the team's CP and have to be set up again. |

To me, shotguns were the most satisfying weapon to use in a lot of games. I'd be playing this games 100 times more! Edit: I also used shotguns the wrong way, lol. I sniped with a shotgun, a weapon with horrible accuracy, yet still managed to kill far away opponents. Can you imagine getting a headshot with one from 100 yards away in a game? |

shotgun needed ftw |

WHY IS IT THAT ALL THIS HAD TO BE MODERN WEPS WHEN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST WW1 FPS! |
#47228 [C.H]Winston_ Extreme Brit Posted 13 years ago |
@QUESTIONDUDE, AA's were in WW1-2. |
#47234 MaggotHATE Member Posted 13 years ago |
The title should have been, a simple but EFFECTIVE weapon system, never presume your idea is a good one, till you get input from others =PPP Having said that. /Support |

Do you really think discussing this will get shotguns into the game? |
#47294 YourMom *BANNED*Gregarious Posted 13 years ago |
@ MaggotHATE, SMGs were invented during WW1, according to wikipedia. Honestly anything used between 1900 and 1990 would work in this game. |
#47324 MegaDeuce This is not a title. Posted 13 years ago |
Playing the "Vietnam" map, I realised something... Ace of Spades works really well with a Vietnam theme. MegaDeuce is correct about the time period being unspecific, though... I'd narrow it down more to somewhere between 1930 and 1970, but that's still a big range to cover. Mounted machine guns have sounded nice to a lot of people on the forums for a long time, and I would really like to have one. @Kaede: Eh, I don't think the positioning should be limited. Just make the machine-gun nice and noisy to prevent people from spawncamping with it. |

The problem though is that it protects whoever is using it until it's sustained enough damage to be destroyed. It'd be overpowered in a situation where there is team imbalance. I'd prefer it be used only for defense tactics, instead of pushing the front line. |
#47327 Kaede-chan (かえでーちゃん) Imageboard Moderator Posted 13 years ago |
@Kaede: Why bother giving that much protection? Make the body of the MG block fire (to a certain point, anyways), but other than that leave the user exposed so they're forced to put enemies down and put them down fast to stay alive. It could develop a really fun marksman vs. machine gun dynamic. |
#47328 1337101 Modifier Posted 13 years ago |
It's not "that much protection" It's up to 3 per team or 1 for every 5 people on each team. If there's only 10 people on the server, thats 1 per team. And yeah, it's the front of it that keeps the user from being shot, which, when used defensively, will pretty much keep the user from dying until the unit has been destroyed, unless somebody sneaks behind it and shoots the user. |
#47329 Kaede-chan (かえでーちゃん) Imageboard Moderator Posted 13 years ago |
@Kaede: That's what I was talking about. I don't like the idea of the user being invunerable to a certain amount of hits from the front. If a sniper can line up a shot past the gun and into the gunner's face, he should be rewarded for the effort. I don't want any sort of gun shield on it. |
#47337 1337101 Modifier Posted 13 years ago |
It should have one if it's only being used defensively, though. A sniper can still get the person mounting it if they're off to the side at the right angle. |
#47339 Kaede-chan (かえでーちゃん) Imageboard Moderator Posted 13 years ago |
@MegaDeuce, invented, but not used in fact. |
#47352 MaggotHATE Member Posted 13 years ago |
@MaggotHATE: That's true, SMGs/MPs didn't really come into extensive combat use until WWII. Still, AoS has a pretty fuzzy time-period. |
#47356 1337101 Modifier Posted 13 years ago |
Ace of Spades can't be from any real life conflict. When was the last time solid blue was used as camouflage? With custom skins now it is really impossible to say which time period Ace of Spades is. I personally use an M4 skin as SMG and an M21 as my rifle skin. |
#47367 Mastur_Grunt Grunt Posted 13 years ago |
@Mastur_Grunt: You do realize that some wars didn't involved ANY camoflauge, right? You're right to say there's no definite time for AoS, but trying to nail things down to one time period is a way to keep the gameplay balanced and consistent. Obviously, flintlock muskets or hand blasters would make the game less fun. |
#47370 1337101 Modifier Posted 13 years ago |
Custom "skins" aren't canon to gameplay. This game takes place some time between WW1 and WW2. |
