There were planes in WW1.

People brought up world war 1 because trench warfare was central to that conflict. Forming lines and pushing the enemy back past his defenses is what I suspect was the developers goal which is more in keeping with WW1 than 2.

Considering the weapons are just palceholders I wouldn't put too much weight into the weapons right now.

trench warfare was important in many wars after ww1. vietnamese war anyone? and nutellas right this game is in the AoS universe, so dont insist its any REAL war from history

I think telling each other that the game is set in WWI is just so that people don't make stupid suggestions on ridiculous technology that would ruin the feel of the game.

It's obviously Vietnam. Even the name and the logo with helm w/ ace of spade suggests it.

Actually, Korea would make more sense. In Korea we had semi-auto rifles, and most of the fighting was trench warfare.

It's just a friggin' war game. Admitted, the weapons hardly resemble any true WWI weaponry. But hey who gives a fuck about realism when you're building tunnels without fortifying them, bunkers in matter of seconds and one shot doesn't immobilise a soldier?

Problem solved, were in a time machine.

I have an M4A1 Carbine... Which clearly was used in WWII. Depends on your perspective dude.

The way I see it is-

Things taken from Vietnam: the tunneling, the name.

Things taken from WW2: The gun's ironsights, similar sized teams, wide usage of grenades.

Things taken from WW1: The tunneling, similar sized teams, trenches being used for survival en masse, the particular way in which localised fights change the frontlines of defense, how crucial it is to control these lines, the way the dropped intel also changes the frontlines, when the defenders are trying to keep the intel from being picked up again, Single shot rifles (though semi-auto), the way the landscape becomes a barren charred wasteland littered with bombed out and half destroyed structures built by each side, the lack of trees of any kind, the abundance of mud (or what looks very much like it at least), The reliance on the rifle as the only weapon given, and how quickly standing up in a trench can get you killed.

I know it's not based on any given conflict, but it has FAR more in common with WW1 than Vietnam or WW2, so I can understand why people call it Minecraft meets WW1.
