    IF it gets implemeted into the game....

    At very close range I think it should be 1 hit kill.

    And fire with maybe 6 pellets at a 12% spread every 10 blocks? each pellet dealing 100 to head, 40 to body, 20 to limbs.

    With 6 rounds in each "clip" (30 shell's total?) a slow rate of fire. Reload time? havnt thought of that yet.

    This weapon would be best for things like camping the intel or digging tunnels to enemy intel, were you can pop up and fire a single blast, then duck down again".

    And can destroy 1 block with every shot, this makes it less useful at greifing then the smg.

    NOTE* will be rendered useless at any range around 20-30 blocks.

    Thoughts? idea's?

    That is irrelevant. If one pellet manages to hit me, that's 50-75 percent of my health gone. I fail to see how a single pellet from a relatively small buckshot round is somehow more powerful than a SMG (handgun) round, let alone a full-blown rifle round. That's just idiotic.

    The entire batch of pellets needs to do a total of one hundred percent damage (for the weapon to be reasonably effective at close range). Divide that by six, you'll get 16.6 (just round it up to 17), but for all the little skiddies I'd raise it to 25 percent (125 percent total damage). Landing one poorly-aimed, luck-based pellet (not the entire buckshot spread; just a single pellet) on an enemy should not take off 75 percent of their health. That is ridiculously overpowered and makes absolutely no sense when compared to the power of the other two weapons.

    I like the idea of ten damage pellets. It'll make the shotty good for cqc but absolute shit at longer range. The shotgun also has a potential to breach forts and what-not, but it also has quite a bit of griefer potential.

    It is a griefing tool, but so is ever other gun. Well that is sort of the idea, that way you can blow holes in your enemy and their bunker.

    Dude it only takes out 1 block per shot and you have 6 shots before you have to reload, the smg takes out WAY more blocks, the shotgun would be incredibly ineffective at grefing.

    I don't think individual pellets doing damage would even work, seeing as damage is based on hitscan, not projectiles. It'd have to be based two things: The general body parts your cursor was next to, and the distance you fired from. The closer, the more damage it does.

    But how would it work?

    The SMG needs to be tweaked to be more like a mid-range assault rifle, imo. A shotgun is far more suited to close-range combat than an SMG.

    Hitscan can work with multiple projectiles. and hitscan does not always mean the center of the screen

    Just like our "Lottery" rifle now doesn't always hit center, just ran that script multiple times with a wider arc, and bam ,you got yourself a boomstick.

    as for actual numbers, i don't really care as long as it feels right and is balanced.

    While it's true that new gamemodes are more important than new weapons, we still need to address the lottery problem on the semi, and get ourselves a better, more balanced close-range weapon, whether it be a melee pickaxe or a shotgun.

    Agreed Drewgon, i don't feel we need any more weapons.
    Heck, just the Semi is fine.

    More work needs to be done on the source code i think :P

    Because of bens recent tweet, something tells me AoS is written is spaghetti code :)

    I don't rely understand why people would want a melee weapon. A shotgun should be able to handle all those point blank to close range skirmishes just as well as a melee weapon would. It also bothers me that in quite a few FPS games: melee weapons give a guaranteed one hit kill.
