I was wondering if anyone here plays or has ever played a musical instrument. It can be for school or pleasure or any other reason. I was also wondering if anyone here writes music.

Myself? I play string bass and baritone horn. I have an audition coming up to play bass in college and am a little nervous. I also write some music both by hand and with sequencers and drum-machines.

I'm a self taught bass player. Also teaching myself electric/acoustic as well. Can't write very well by myself lol

When I was at my Uni, I would take my stuff out on campus and play for hours for fun.

I used to play percussion. But now I'm rusty and I forgot most of the stuff I used to know.

For a while I produced hardstyle, and I got bored of that.

What style/genre do you generally play?

I play the drums, I like to sing, I have a harmonica, and I got a banjo today so I can learn some alt songs that use the banjo (sufjan stevens)

Oh neat! I have a Banjo as well. I'm not good enough at it yet to say I play it though.

Are you self taught in drums,harmonica and singing? How do you plan on going about learning Banjo?

I played the recorder in elementary school and 6th grade.

I hated the recorder...

Why??? Sooo versatile and windwoody sounds.

The sound those things produce is horrid, sspecially with 20-30 others going all at the same time. Oh and the sour notes... I was scarred for life -_-'

They made excellent projectiles though :D

Recorders don't sound that bad when they are played well. It's just that no one can play them well in elementary school.

I have a recorder still. I had two, but I gave one of them to my little brother.

I also have an acoustic guitar I still can't play.

Learn your basic chords, then learn the scales.

Also recorders are amazing. I remember how proud I was in grade 3 when I first learned how to play Hot Cross Buns :)

I play the musical instruments made through computers and computer emmulations (plus oscillators and other such sounds.)

a recent drive failure has eliminated me from releasing my first LP to the internet.

It started when i learned how to work a vinyl deck and some analog instruments along with it.

Other wise, i'd play the Electric Violin.

I'm a self-taught guitarist. I play acoustic and electric, but I'm more of a rhythm guitarist than a lead. I've yet to learn scales.

To learn the guitar is easy in my opinion, just learn your basic chords (G, A, C, D, F, E, B - leave F and B 'til last as they are trickier) and all their minor variants, then start on Barre Chords and other chord variants, like suspended, slash chords, power chords, etc.

I tried to learn playing an acoustic guitar. Suffice to say I didn't get far.

That and the sibs broke my guitar.
