  • We NEED a sniper rifle.

    Yes it's another sniper rifle thread thats trying to argue it's way through a sea of people who think it could ruin the game, well think again! it could be a good (and useful) weapon if it's implemented well into the game.
    but first im going to talk about the pros and cons of the sniper.

    1.Camping
    On the weapon poll there must of been over 50 posts that said "people would just camp" or "everyone will start camping!" yes people probably would camp with it but:
    You're supposed to camp with a sniper! im mean come on! who uses a sniper rifle whilst moving around? and if ben added weight to it to balance it then that proves what im saying even more; your supposed to camp with a sniper! and for all those who say "camping will ruin the game! etc." well you go back to your COD games you 12 year olds. camping is also a tactical advantage, in maps like hallway when someone goes in to get the intel the people with rifles cover the player because there up high and there eliminating the chance of the player who is getting the intel being defeated.

    2.Ammo
    Some others were saying that it would have too much ammo and it wouldn't be a proper sniper, im sorry ben but it appears that some people think you are stupid.
    Ben would obviously add less ammo (possible per clip) to the sniper.

    3.rifle + sniper
    Some people were saying that having a sniper plus the semi would be a bad idea.
    well this is a no braimer because ben would probably water-down the rifle. People were saying that its fine if we just give the rifle it's pinpoint acuracy again, well we know that thats not going to happen (thanks alot you complaining deuces).

    4.Balancing
    Others were complaining that the rifle would be too powerful and that it would be a 1 hit kill from any part of the body, well there are two ways around this:
    1. Ben makes it that when you try to aim the sights (when you right click) moves really slowly so it's impossible to hit moving targets.
    2.The sniper could only kill with a headshot.
    3. (okay this IS a cod idea) the sight bobs up and down like the character is breathing (greens and blues breathe right?) and you press the wheel in the mouse to make the player hold thier breath.

    5.Reloading
    People were saying that the sniper would have slower reload, i agree with that.

    6.Range
    A few said that people would be able to see further with the sniper (zooming in). whilst some said that it would be good others said that it would be bad, now they probably don't know about AoS render distance and that the fog is just to cover it up, but tbh I think we would be fine if we could see normally with the sniper.

    7.Spawn killing
    Some said that snipers would spawn kill, which i agree IS a bad thing, BUT the sniper would have limited ammo so eventually they would have to use grenades or a sidearm or something. And also: did any of those people think about trying to kill the spawn killer? it's so easy, and with a sniper it would be easier...

    well thats all I have to say, post your opinions on what I said.
    Now excuse me, im going to go to my bunker where I can be safe from all the trolling noobs who didn't read what I said, the sensible people will read it and post a fair point.

    Simply put, a sniper rifle should have advanced zoom, less ammo, bolt action, 2 hit kill. The breathing thing isn't that important but more of a minor detail. But there should be bullet drop like Battlefield, the bullet drops over distance.

    Hmm.. my thoughts on weapons based on this..

    I believe a sniper-rifle could work, though things would need to be shuffled/planned carefully.

    Sniper-rifle:
    A sniper-rifle would have to be 'heavy'. And by 'heavy' I mean that it would be difficult to make any kind of quick movement with the barrel. In this form, there could be an 'aim-lag' whereby the gun takes a moment to drag itself around to where you are aiming.
    It would be one-hit on the body or head, but would only have 5 rounds, perhaps with 15 more carried - when ammo runs dry, you can hit people with the butt of the gun.

    Rifle:
    Two possibilities.
    1. Damage lessened, change reload size to 5 but make fire-interval (time between each shot) smaller
    2. Make the rifle more of a double-barrelled shotgun kinda deal. Two bullets, which spread a little (yes, a small cone) and keep fire-interval as-is.

    SMG:
    Sort the hit verification so that all hits register correctly, and make the recoil a little more manageable than it is.

    That's my weapon-balancing thoughts.

    Sniper Rifle:
    Semi-Automatic Rifle, but with better accuracy and increased zoom. Long-Range.

    Assault Rifle:
    SMG but with less recoil and more accuracy. Mid-Range.

    Shotgun:
    Takes the SMG's place as the close range weapon. Great for close range combat but suffers less damage for mid to long range as the pellets spread. Close-Range.

    Here's what I think. The semi wasn't nerfed, server-side hit detection was implemented so technaclly the semi is still 100% acurate since you cant dis-apply server-side hit detection. So all a sniper would give us is a scope(which can already be implemented though modding) and some zoom levels. Also the ability to see though fog with the sniper would be extremley cheap and result in getting killed half-way across the map

    No. It's server side hit detection which changes the hit detection for client side(if hes on your crosshairs and you fire he gets hit) to server side(your bullet goes to position X,Y but when enemy is out of posistion X,Y you miss) making you miss more often. This system is applied to ALL weapons old or new.

    While I would use a sniper if it became implemented, I would prefer a shotgun, if only for the sake of gameplay dynamics. A camping-fest where the gameplay is based around "find and kill all the snipers, then rush for intel" is what I believe would emerge next. A shotgun would allow anyone rushing a base to remove any threats easily, pronouncedly on maps like pinpoint or the generated map, in cases where it intel spawns in valley or enemies build fortifications.

    Sorry. But I have to disagree. A Sniper will be a "Power weapon". By that I mean that everyone will want one and if Ben puts a limit on how many there can be, people will start greifing until they get the Sniper. The game will turn into a shooting range of "spot the green/blue head".

    Now, let me go through the points, one by one:

    1. Camping.
    Yes. People will camp. That's it. No more gameplay because everyone will camp. There will be no "Tactical advantage" if everyone do the exact same thing. If someone sits a top a tower shooting at people, everyone else will do the exact same thing. Continue reading the other points before debating here.

    2. Ammo.
    Even if the Sniper have 1 clip and 10 extras, it will still not change that everyone will pick Sniper. When they are out of ammo, they will run out in the battlefield with grenades in their hands, get killed and spawn 4 seconds later with full ammo and health.

    3. Rifle + Sniper.
    Why do everyone complain about this? It is clear that as soon Sniper comes, no one wants Rifle. No one will choose Rifle because they think it's "boring, uncool and weak", unlike Sniper who is "Awesome, Cool and Strong".
    It's like bulling. Everyone gathers around Sniper because he got all the toys, is good looking and stronger then everyone else even though he shares the same amount of IQ with a rock.
    Rifle, on the other hand, is poor, ugly and small but still get all the test right because he is the brain child of Issac Newton and Albert Einstein.
    Please continue reading the other points why this is so.

    4. Balancing.
    Let me go through all of these first.
    1. Have you thought about the distance? The farther away the enemies are, the easier the Sniper will have shooting them. Also, almost all of the maps are plains with towers or high hills. The Sniper will have either a blast playing a point-and-click game or get bored to death by all of the other peoples that have the same idea.
    2. Clarify a little. You mean that the Sniper can only 1-hit kill on head or you mean that the head is where the Sniper can only hit? This will not change a thing because no one aims at the body in the first place.
    3. Will not change a thing. Even on longer distance.
    Continue reading because I have more on this subject later.

    5. Reloading.
    Even if you have super slow reloading, it will not matter if the whole team are Snipers.

    6. Range.
    Here is where the good things about Snipers stop. Even if you have slow reloading, low ammo, low movement, low everything and stuff, it will not matter if the Sniper can't be better then the Rifle in range. I use the Rifle and I score headshots even on the maximum range. It's harder, yes, but the Sniper will be greatly inferior then the Rifle.

    7. Spawn killing.
    How do people think that would work? If the Sniper have low ammo, low movement and can't see farther then the Rifle, Spawn killing is no threat at all.

    8. Gameplay interference.
    The Sniper will not fit in the gameplay. Ace of Spades is a sandbox shooter where you can build and dig to get the best advantage as possible. How do you think Sniper will play in that? It will be highly impracticable because everyone will be on constant move and as I said before, Sniper will be highly inferior compared to the Rifle in these situations.

    Now that was my 5 cents of worth. But before I go, I want to give you some tips in debating.

    1. Present ALL issues with the subject. Not yours, not someone else, ALL of them no matter if they are good or bad.
    After you do this, you can then present you solution to the problems and how to make everything better.

    2. Don't be an asshole.
    In other words, don't insult and hate on other people no matter what they do, say or what games they play. If you do this, you'll get more support from all kinds of people, even from the creators them self. Be calm and answer everything in logic.

    If you got offended or something, I'm sorry. But if you do respond on this with no hating or insulting, you have my respect.

    We don't NEED a sniper rifle, I think the shotgun (even if I don't quite fancy it) will add more fun to this game, instead of the campfest it currently is. O' course, us campers will still be indispensable to slap your shit from a distance. But I don't understand why wouldn't you settle with the actual rifle, it's harder to use, therefore more exciting. Anyways that's your taste

    you guys sure love to bitch about things. Everyone hated autoclimb, now look at it. YOURE USING AND ENJOYING IT

    Make the sniper fire rate delay twice as much as the rifle, solution found. Make a reload every 4 shots. Make it do 2 to the body, 1 to the head,SAME fog distance and walking speed. The sights should move a bit slower, and maybe have a sway to even it out a bit.
    The issues on camping are all lame. Anyone can camp, and if you are being spawn trapped just find them and kill them from behind, or make a roof for christs sake. There are plenty of solutions.

    The point is, sniper with half the fire rate, low ammo clip (3/4 of rifles ammo?), and a bit of aim sway (2 degrees?) and the game will stillwork fine. I can still outgun rifleman at fog distance using the smg. Its the player, not the weapon

    It will still not change the fact that the Sniper will be inferior to the Rifle. Do please read the arguments about this in my last post before replying.

    The point is that the Sniper is not needed. The Rifle is more practical and more useful.

    not inferieur at all. If the rifle's cone would actually be a cone, and not alwasy just flying to the left and being predictable/only usefull at med range the sniper rifle would be a nice choice.

    Anyways, shotgun is next anyways

    The only problem I can see with the sniper rifle is that if it can see through the fog, it'd be extremely easy to kill somebody over and over because they can't see you through the fog. Basically, you're invulnerable from enemy fire becaues they won't know where you are. The semi is going to be upgraded, so the sniper would be useless.

    My problem with a sniper is that it will either be:

    A. Inferior to the rifle, meaning it won't get used.
    B. Too overpowered, making the current rifle useless.
    C. Too similar to the rifle, meaning there's no point to program one into the game

    The current rifle and a sniper rifle can't coexist without one becoming useless, so what's the point of Ben putting a sniper rifle in when he could be working on registration or other content?
