Hello my good fellows! I been wondering about new block ideas for AoS and decided to see if you have any as well, so go ahead and throw out some new ideas, no matter how crazy or dull it may seem. I'll start off with my recent idea. I been thinking about a block that's sorta like the sand and gravel block in Minecraft, where as it falls down if a block is not underneath it and if it falls on top of the player it could kill them. I think it would be a great idea because this means it could open up the ideas of traps, like pitfalls or collapsing roofs. Feel free to comment on it. |

Some kind of reinforced block,u know, starts with only 15 of it,but they take double the shots and u take double the time to destroy it with a pickaxe. Also they can't be destroyed by a spade. |

I like both of these ideas. Of course, some will say "DIFFERINT TYPES OF BLOX MAEK THIS GAEM 2 MUCH LAIK MINECRAFT!". |

Both of your ideas are good. I'd also like to see blocks that can be placed on top of water. |

That's really good Chaos I like it, but 15 seems to low, maybe half the default blocks, because after all it is double the strength. |
#60215 Mr. White The Gentleman Posted 13 years ago |
Yeah,u are right. It should be more for reinforced intel towers or sniper nests. |

Just three types of block would be good-normal, falling, and reinforced. Not asking for more-just three. |

I feel like bumping up this topic. I really would like to see new blocks, not all the following are original ideas, but i'd like to see them anyway: Ladder on block surface - could be at a cost of 1 block |

I've been thinking the exact same thing. That said, I don't think different block types should draw from different sources. Rather than having X number of each type of block, it would make more sense if you have a total number of general blocks, and different types of blocks cost different amounts. This creates more scarcity and forces people to make choices - do I build one thing, or do I build another? This could be improved by making 'better' blocks have a nonlinear rise in costs. If regular blocks cost 1 and reinforced blocks cost 2, you might as well build entirely with reinforced blocks. On the other hand, if reinforced blocks cost 3, it forces you to make choices. You might only use reinforced blocks for the ground level, or you might not at all. Or you might for the whole building. This is especially important because being twice as strong gives more than twice the advantage. For one, space can be at a premium, and using weaker blocks uses more space. Two, it takes twice as long to build a building of the same strength out of weaker blocks. A one block thick wall of reinforced blocks is just as strong as a two block thick wall of regular blocks, but is MUCH faster to construct! Etc etc. Also, to crack2's ideas: "Ladder on block surface - could be at a cost of 1 block" YES. THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE SO BADLY. If it costs 1 block it should be easy to destroy. Otherwise 2 blocks, because you have to take into account how much more vulnerable stairs usually are and how many more blocks those take to make. "Transparent or translucent blocks - representing bulletproof glass. Could be anisotropic." Also yes. That said, if they're anisotropic, they should use a fair number of blocks. "Blocks letting through bullets, grenades, not people - aka camo netting" Also a great idea. "Blocks letting through people but not bullets, grenades - funny shit" Doors, maybe? They could be locked/unlocked from the inside, or otherwise only let in a certain team. Maybe. "Hurting blocks - barbed wire or dunno" Yes. It would make it WAY easier to make traps. "Healing blocks - funny shit" Only if they used a lot of blocks and healed very slowly, otherwise it could encourage camping too strongly. "Exploding blocks - yep-yep. Proximity mines, or landmines or claymores." Yes. "Fragile blocks - would break if you stand on them for a few seconds" Also yes. "Team specific block - that would be for eg.: transparent for blue, but normal for green. Stuff like that. " It could work, but might be somewhat overpowered unless pretty expensive. |

GAAA! Not an idea thread like this!!! Don't you people realize what you're asking for??? |

Sticky blocks? You get stuck/slowed by them and maybe could even climb them? |
#95828 Tek2 Member Posted 13 years ago |
Well, with what Bubbzo said, perhaps a better/larger color pallet? |

I think SealyStar's got the right idea. Three block types is a nice number, and the ones suggested are more than enough. Regular blocks for quick buildings and framework (1 block cost), trap/falling blocks for little pungee pits or heavily disguised chasms (2 block cost), and reinforced blocks for proper defense (4 block cost). Take the values at face value, I'm just coming up with random numbers/ideas. |

Some protected blocks chosen by the server...that's all we should have. 'Nuff said. |

@Bubbzo I believe mods are very important in the developement of a game, especially in the beta testing periods. Because they let people actually test their weird ideas, and if they work, the stock game can improve based on these ideas. For example i welcome the new classes mod - even if it is totally imbalanced, weird and destroys the pre 0.55 gameplay - because it is funny, and i think it has elements, that gives good ideas for the stock game developers. /OFF |

Voxelated sprays on block like in valve games. Oh wait, that would lead to unapropriate sprays... |
