I thought it could be sweet to have mortars in the game. It would make just sitting on your ass in your fortifications more dangerous AND it would also make digging trenches useful. What do you think? |

Would have to be very carefully planned out. Have a 10 second 'aiming time' where you get to see above the battlefield, and no matter where your cursor ends up, it fires to that point with a slight inaccuracy. Mortar holds 4 shots. First thoughts about balancing the thing ^ and even that probably has major flaws. |

Has been suggested before. This along with fixed artillery pieces, machinegun emplacements and other assorted fortifications. As for the mortar itself, not yet. Fix the issue of griefers and hit detection first before adding more gameplay features. |

Hmm, okay. I was thinking of something like in the Tribes where a team mate could laserpoint a target and a guy with mortar could then aim at it. Ofcourse the loading time would need to be looooooooooong and everything, but I just like the idea of a "trench war". |

OH YEAH! Although I think it should have to be set to an angle instead of having to choose where you want to shoot on the map. |

Huh. I thought at first this thread was about martyrs. We already have those. :3 |

And you can't aim it on your side of the map, to prevent griefing. |

Mortar's should be fired at an angle, it shouldn't be as easy as looking on the map, try wolfenstein : enemy territory and you'll get me. P.S Trenches are my favourite type of cover, they require no bricks at all! |

Shooting in angle is exactly what I was thinking. I never played Tribes myself but I read about it that in it a team mate could laserpoint a target and it showed on the other player's screen as a beam where he could target at. So it also needed an angle shot but the other guy just gives him the exact target on the sky to aim at. You COULD shoot without laserpointing but it wouldn't be accurate. Also, you could give the mortar shell an arming time which would make straight-shooting impossible and limit the mortar as an extremely long-distance weapon. |

You need to think about technical limitations as well. |

+1 to this shit. They should either be permanent emplacements, or take a while to set up, but with a limited range. Either way, it should be controlled by setting it at an angle for the distance, then a 10-20 second loading period before firing. I'd say a maximum of 3 per team would make things balanced, too. |

I think the angle has a min. of 2 settings. The 2 setttings would be at the very least just how many sectors away. |

I think it should be like the mortar in the CoD 3 campaign mission that is in a forest,I dont remember if it was the 7 or 8 mission, but near the end you go and use a mortar, aiming it in a angle and to left and right. |
