    but Ben should remove the spade and replace it with the knife. The animation could stay the same, and then if he allowed us to re-map the keyboard keys so we could make the rifle 1, knife 2, grenade 3, spade 4, blocks 5. or however youd like it.

    Meh. I'd rather have bayonets on the semi and hitting with the SMG's stock than knives, so you get to keep your spade.

    If that's for some reason out of the question and the knife thing goes, it should be optional. Melee, or "digability"?

    I understand giving us an option to switch it for a knife, but remove it completely? That doesn't seem right. The spade is a good tool for tunneling, destroying enemy structures, and can help a lot if used correctly. I love the spade but throwing it out knowing how long it has been with us seems pretty mean.

    Just my opinion though.

    OR he adds that sort of thing with G or something. I just find the spade to be more of a greifer thing, and not used that often. A secondary fire(melee) would please me with that, and people keep the spade

    There are still a couple of custom maps that are good with tunneling like Renaissance Town. My friend and I single-handedly won about 3 consecutive games with a tunnel leading to the blue's intel. It was even more effective because the blues (and greens) were mindlessly going to the church to spawn-snipe.

    renaissance is fun, but most oftenly greifed to hell, unless pyspades has roll back on it.

    It's a kind of good thing if the church was griefed. No spawn snipers dicking around up there = me being able to get to my tunnel with the least bullets in me.

    It seems like it would be simpler just to give the spade and pick melee abilities. Players would get a melee ability, modders would make knife mods for the tools, and everyone gets what they want without remapping the keys.

    hell no

    spade is still useful, even on most custom maps. besides, on psyspades pickaxe is working fine for melee so i dont see why ben would even need to make a knife.

    i was actually charging a little hill a few hours ago on a server with pickaxe melee, and it worked pretty badly, but was fun. i got close enough, so then i decided to try it out, and then started running towards it with the pickaxe

    i think a melee is usually goodfor tunnel situations, i have foundmyself behind an enemy in a tunnel, and i do not want to shoot him, that would be breaking my code of honor.

    i still think just leaving the tools, and not adding a knife would be the best idea

    The pickaxe is like an extremly close-range machine gun on pyspades :/ I once fell into a trench being made by the enemy and I died in about 3 seconds. The tunneler didn't even know what had happened.

    are you telling me youve never seen an enemy turned away from you trying to snipe? because if you say no im calling bull shit, and id rather hit him 5 times with the pick than waste a bullet and alert everyone where i am.

    I never said I wanted a melee weapon. I simply said that I was killed by one. What's the problem with being able to kill somebody with a pick anyways? It's not a one-hit sort of thing. Your argument, "CALLADUTY HAS IT HURR DURR SO IT MUST BE BAD DURR" is idiotic. "Hey, wait! AoS uses guns! It's now a terrible game because COD uses those too!"

    We're talking hypotheticals here, fatnotch. This thread isn't about melee coming to .55, it's about adding a knife/bayonet after all of that content you're reffering to is implemented.

    Melee weapons to me are just fun weapons, I would use them whenever I'm playing with friends to have some good laughs or just use it because hey, it's just there. Pyspades does melee pretty well with the pickaxe.

    Who cares, FatNotch, you're making it seem like it's the most horrible idea ever, when really it's not a bad idea at all. Maybe it's not a good idea, but there's really no reason to be arguing against it to the extent that you are. Calling people retards, ponyfags, etc. etc. really isn't really helping either.

    im not fucking missing a point blank shot, the point is i shouldnt have to fire on an unsuspecting enemy and give a giant warning call to everyone in the vicinity.

    I like the idea of the pickaxe as a melee weapon more, that thing is pointy enough to pierce skulls.

    The reason why some people (including me) want a melee weapons is an assurance that we'll have something to kill people with when we run out of ammo. (Regardless of how good we can aim whatever gun we were carrying at the time)

    I think the idea of making something like G a melee is a bad idea, but making it grenades instead I think would be cool. I'd prefer the melee to be equippable just like pyspades with the pickaxe. I also think re-mappable keys would be cool, and is probably gonna be implemented soon. Even if there are bayonets and stuff, I think they should be equippable as well.

    I've tried the melee pickaxe in PySpades and it's terrible. Not the idea overall, just the fact that it will register a hit (as far as I can tell) against anyone even vaguely near you. You should have to have your cursor over the intended target to hit it.

    I really don't see why having melee would be an inherently bad idea. It's not just in Call of Duty. It's also in many other shooters, as well as, oh yeah, real life. Nor would it neccesarily overcomplicate the game.

    It needs to be something Ben makes, and has a very short distance on, like 2 blocks away or something.
    Heck, the animation could jsut be your gun lurching forward.
