  • Binoculars instead of sniper?

    I was thinking today instead of having a sniper rifle that can look more into the fog that the addition of binoculars would allow you to look into the fog for another 50 -100 blocks to spot people , tactics, stuff like that. Just an idea so dont say stuff like, "This will make it like COD" I just think this is a better addition to the game than the sniper. We already have a rifle, why do we need a sniper rifle? As long as we can look into the fog a little, that will satisfy me. Thoughts?

    Yeah, someone add a tally on the suggestion slate for binoculars

    i just realized that every mmo is a rip off from wow and every shooter is a rip off from cod.

    the idea seems cool from the user, but think about it when you are walking on a big flat surface looking into the fog. trying to spot someone. and all off a sudden lots off shots is fired out from the fog and it's impossible for you to shoot back.

    but i mean lets be for real. if someone thinks the person will stay stationary long enough to know exactly where the guy and gets a shot on the guy its his problem

    Not every shooter is a rip off of CoD. If anything, CoD is a rip off of Medal of Honor.

    Wouldn't you have to recode the whole engine for that? I thought the player models aren't even rendered beyond the current fog limit?

    Actually, Duck hunt started first person shooters technically. If you don't consider that a first person shooter, then Wolfenstein came out before Doom.

    Can't you people just STOP going on with this clone-this-rip-off that-cod-earlier-war about who was first? NOBODY GIVES A FUCK. The only thing that matters with clones if they are good and sell/cost good. (Just like women, someone else said)
    I'd like just to have a normal suggestion without anyone mentioning CoD.
    Binoculars can be just replaced with the spade slot.

    About the rip-off from CoD: How can a binocular be a rip-off from a videogame when it does exist in real life.... Shooters are a rip-off from real life warfare x_X.... And I think binoculars are a good idea, but I would implement it with classes :&

    @Beret It seems plausible that the render limit is an adjustable part of the engine, and could be extended with relative ease. But this is speculation on both our parts, and I suspect only Ben could answer that question with certainty.

    I wouldn't mind being able to trade a pair of binoculars for my 'nades, even if they didn't let you see any further into the fog. Some situations really call for something like that. Blockhead hosts who set the sky pitch black come to mind.
