  • [REVISED SMG] - Proof of concept
  •

    Hey guys,

Before anyone posts saying "the game us already well balanced, the smg is the mid range weapon" just let me explain something very quickly.

    - Brief explanation -

While at first glance the SMG seems balanced enough; that is far from the truth, the SMG can be used for mid range combat, but it isnt very well tuned to cope with it.

Currently it is more of a close combat weapon, I rarely see it used at any range greater then the shotgun is used.

    - How to fix this -

In order to fine tune the SMG and move it more firmly into the mid range category, away form the short range, a few (if not one) very simple things can be done.

    1) tighten up the recoil, or change the recoil itself.

By which i mean either reduce the recoil once more to turn it into an... assault rifle i guess is the word?

or change the recoil from an upwards zigzag to a slowly expanding circular motion, TGM originally came up with this idea (he had a pic but i couldn't find it)

    2) reduce recoil a lil and then add a cone of fire, the cone doesn't need to be very wide at all, but should start very slight, then increase a lil with every shot[s] fired.

    - So...why should you care? -

Well by tuning the SMG for mid range, it becomes more integral to gameplay, currently it has been left behind, with most ppl using the rifle or shotty. Balancing it slightly more will add that little extra tactical thinking into the game, forcing you to choose your weapon carefully in order to maximise your combat effectiveness.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you very much for reading, critisms and other ideas are hugely welcome and I look forward to reading your replies.

On another note I have another thread which goes into great detail about the idea of adding a sidearm into the game, it contains a complete proof of concept, right down to the proposed gun model. link below.

i say no to a reduced coil, it simply needs a damage of ROF speed buff.

^ but then its still a close range wep, not a mid range, in that case we have two short range weps, and one long range.

it was already med-range wit hthe other recoil, this is even better. It jsut needs a damage buff to compete with the 70% of player- i mean shotgun users.

Shotgun needs to be better than SMG at short range. If you just buff the damage, you aren't making the SMG a midrange weapon. You're just making it a better short range one.

    +1 to this.
I hate the idea of making the smg a better short range weapon.

shotgun IS better then smg at short range, it has 1 shot kill.

I just think it should do a little more damage, or atleast have penaltys of some kind for being hit. Maybe extra collateral for being shot multiple times in a second or less?
