Well, first off, I'm new on the forums (but not to AoS), so hi. In game I'm Dan77, but a registration mix-up has caused me to change the name a bit. Anyway, I have two suggestions I'd like to put forward. And I know how many people don't like suggestions because there usually along the lines of "MACHINE GUNS ARTILLERY NUKES TANKS!!!!11!" and so forth. I dislike those kinds of suggestions too. My suggestions are smaller and only one has to do with gameplay. I'll start with that one: A melee weapon. I'm aware this has probably been suggested before, but my ideas on it: Nothing to fancy, just a simple pixel knife. does 50 damage, so 2 hits per kill. I rather like the idea of unlimited hits but if you want to limit usage you could implemet a durability limit of sorts. I'm not necessarily in favor of the idea of throwing knives, it seems as if that would over complicate things. Anoher idea is to have your pickaxe act as a melee weapon, with the same properties as I mentioned above. This would eliminate the need to add a new weapon to the game. My second idea is just a minor one. I'm usually green, so I don't know how many times I've hit the space bar and accidently switched to blue. It's an easy mistake to make, and can be particularly frustrating during long missions into blue territory. So, perhaps change the button for blue to something like H? I'm aware that's a little less intuitive, so perhaps a little confirmation window comes up when you switch teams. Just some thoughts. Anyway, sorry for any spelling errors, and thanks for reading and considering these. -Dan |

I agree. You should be able to sneak up on people and silently take them out with a shovel/pickaxe JUST LIKE THEY DID IN THE TRENCHES WITH COMBAT SHOVELS! and that team switch confirmation would also be great. Personally I think it should be impossible to switch teams mid-game and require you to leave and rejoin a server to be on the other side would make things a lot more fair and make things harder/more annoying for griefers |

I like these, never had the switching problem so far but the knife seems like a good idea (and not OP either). |

Yeah, fast teamchanges kill the game. |

Yeah I'd just make the pick and shovel melee weapons, even though I'd never use it because by habit if I think an enemy is near, I have my rifle ready to go. I've never had the spacebar/blue problem, but I DO get the reload/type fudge a hell of a lot. I've died so many times in enemy territory because my eyes were glued to the screen and I went to reload and entered chat, paralysing me... |

Well, my thoughts on the whole team-switching thing is that you shouldn't be allowed to switch if the team team your on has 5 less people than the opposing team. That way, people can switch to balance out teams, but not to just fight for the winning side. Just my 2 cents. |

I have never been in a situation where i needed a melee weapon. And that's the kind of thing that you might as well have 100 damage. You can just click twice really fast, so there is no need for 50 damage |

Dan67: Really nice idea. |

Anaconda: Perhaps, but anyone can tell you the situations exist. And you have a good point about damage. I suppose if a knife is used it could take some time to draw back and slash again, or with a pickaxe it could take 5 or so hits (as the pickaxe isn't really a weapon, so you'd sorta have to bludgeon them to death with it). And thank you, Green_Beret. |

The knife being a two-hit kill is overpowered, honestly. The melee weapon should, at best, be a last resort/desperation attack. The pickaxe doing 8-12 damage per hit would be good, given its speed. |

dude, thats ridiculous. If there were a melee (which i dont think there should), it should be the kind of thing where you use it to kill someone from behind instantly. That would be its only use. If it did 8 damage per hit, reloading your rifle would be faster than walking up to the enemy and hitting thim 13 times |

The situation I had in mind was when you're stuck in a small space (bunker, tunnel, etc) with an enemy and you can either throw a grenade (which would kill you as well) or flail around with a rifle until one of your shots connects with the head. Or just whip out a melee weapon and bam, 2 stabs and dead. I rather like the idea of a pickaxe/knife dealing enough damage to reach 100 in about 3-5 seconds. |

five seconds is life or death. That's a grenade's fuse. |

The knife should deal around 30 damage with left click ( a quick slash attack like the pickaxe) (30 damage means it takes 4 hits) right click is a stab that deals instant death if you are behind the target (if not behind the target, it deals normal slash damage) however it takes a second to prepare (like the shovel, he moves it forward THEN it digs after a short delay) |

Not only that, but given the pick axe's speed (which is about four to five smacks per second), even a meager 8 points of damage per smack is more than enough (three seconds would turn 100 HP into nothing). |

three seconds is more than enough to for someone to turn around and pop a cap |
#5814 AnacondaML Member Posted 13 years ago |
And you basically just proved my point, if it really is that fast, you might as well just make one hit a kill |
