Why are the weapons rendered as squares instead of cubes? Would having them rendered as cubes hurt the performance? |

Do you mean how the squares are always towards the player, and not just squares? Ask ben |

thats exactly what I meant. Itd be nice if it was an option, although I feel like the current style makes the game what it is. |

For me, when somebody says voxel i instantly think of blocks, not 2D sprites. |

I've been posting about this for a while now. Unfortunately, some idiots think that the engine is totally unalterable (it's not) so every suggestion like this gets flooded with stupid. |

I want that too. It annoys me when I get a kickass kv6 and it looks like a bunch of squares. |

i like it |

I believe it's called ray casting. Voxels aren't polygons and I think that's what you want. That's also why there aren't any textures in the whole game. It's just how the rendering method works, that's why it runs so fast. I don't claim to know the engine inside and out, (or at all honestly) but I'm sure it would take a lot of editing and a lot more processing power to accomplish. I'm not flooding you with stupid, that's just why I think it won't work. |

Holy poo, I was going to make this exact same thread. Totally agree with you. Jeff could be right though, voxels are flat or something, aren't they? But what about the physical map blocks? Those are rendered as cubes. |

Voxels are like a 3d bitmap. Here: each voxel is usually Red,Green,Blue value (RGB), Location (x,y,z,), Alpha (Transparency, sometimes it is binary on/off)... The reason they look like flat squares is because the shader is set to Flat color. It does not render shades or highlights. Just the flat colors. The rest of the blocks in the world are shaded, like player models, and world blocks. Some game engines render textures on Voxels, like Minecraft. |
