Initdirectdraw failed: 0x80004001

When I launch AoS, I get this error in a dialogue window and the game closes.

Is there anything I can do? The game used to work on my computer and the latest update seem to have broken it.

Just pasting "Initdirectdraw failed: 0x80004001" on google automatically showed me like 10 topics on this forum about this issue.

Make sure your screen supports the resolution you set in config.txt

What version of directX does AoS require? I don't have problems with any other games.

I have tried the config file at:
- Defaults
- 1024x768
- 3240x1920 (native resolution)

None of the above work. I do have a modern/dedicated GPU, so it's not a shitty integrated GPU issue.
