The open racism, bullying, trolling, and general stupidity a select few people post here would be a great way to pick out who is going to be disruptive on a server before they ever log in.
Law enforcement , and IT gurus do little internet traps called "honeypots" where they bait people so they can entrap them, This forum can serve the same function.

Just do a quick forum search for the terms that the people stereo typically use when being abusive to others, and you can form a ban list really quick.

People are trying to have fun, and just play a game. These assholes have no place here, or on any other game site.

Even if the IP is not publicly available, it would be cool to give them to trusted admins. so they can do their ban lists , without wasting too much time on these degenerates.

I mean really! Do we need these people around trashing a small indie game?
Ben and everyone else have put their heat and sole into making a free game for us.

It does not take very much bad publicity to turn the entire internet against you. Especially if people start labeling this game, and its players as Nazi's or any other extremist group.

Scumbags at CNN and FOX just LOVE making shit out of nothing. All they have to do is put together "Violent, videogame, nazi, kkk, hate, bully, children" in a story header to make one of their hair brained time filler stories.

I think it is in the eula that this forum harvests IP addresses. Why not put them to good use?

Just because somebody does stupid things on the forums doesn't mean they are automatically going to ruin the fun for everybody on every server they join. I think that's a little extreme.

This post reminded me of the red scare/witch hunts/anti-communisim/blacklisting or whatever from the fifties.

Lets add his IP to the global banlist. He's such a troll and probably trolls and griefs and hacks in game too.

    I don't think we'd do that.
If there was a registration system of some kind introduced at some point, I don't know how that might affect forum accounts..
I can see why you have proposed this idea, but the releasing of IP's based on forum behaviour is a tad on the extreme side.

Yea the registration thing would solve everything I would think.
I played lots of Half-life 1 mods before they did the steam VAC. The cheating got so bad i had to quit playing all together. After the VAC it was almost a year before i saw another hacker.

    IT'S INCEPTION!!! (>O_________________O')>

    @The Topic In General

The only true way to handle those kinds of people are to be more mature and make sure that you stay at a higher level of attitude than those are purposefully trying to make you mad at them. By doing so, they're the ones that expose themselves as the fools. But falling into the little traps of their own deviation makes YOU look like the idiot...

I like to look at it this way: What a user does in game is not relevant to the forums. They are two separate things (for the time being) and are controlled by different groups of people, with servers being run by their own admins. Whatever happens in a server is the responsibility of the server admin. I've said this for months and still stand by it.

With that being said, a few people have taken that as their "defense" against them being liable for anything they do in game. Here's the thing. While it's true that the server admin is responsible for their servers and the players in them, admins can and will collaborate and share information regarding malicious users, such as IP addresses. Also, although the forums are separate from the game, information can still be relayed through users and will be applied to accordingly.

A perfect example is the global blacklist. It's a collaboration of several server admins to keep track of malicious players. The information is public including IP address, in-game name, and more. With this information, it's easier for admins to do their job with picking out players who a ruining the game and help prevent them from spreading to other servers as well.

Unless when user registration is implemented it uses the existing forum login, this will continue.

As for the legality of entrapment, I wouldn't cite Yahoo Answers as a credible source. Arguments can be on both sides regarding it's legality, it depends on the method used.

Your IP address only means something if you are dumb.

You can change your IP address at will. I do it 10-20 times per day, for work.

    Case closed.
